Jane
"What are you talking about?! I'm not going marry that... horrible excuse of a gentleman !' My screams could be heard across the whole harbor. Good, maybe someone would come to my rescue.
"Don't you use that tone with me Jane. You and I both know Sir Gabriel is a fine young man. You will do as your told. Our family name is on the line here."
My mother pulls the cluster of threads through the loops of the back of my corset, nearly pulling me off the velvet pedistal. By this point, I can barely breathe.
"I will go to your blasted party tonight, I'll dance with your gentleman, but I shall not marry him."
Mother sighs a deep gust of irritation. The tugging on my waist, seazed.
"And just who do you plan on marrying my dear? A common street rat? You can do far better than that Jane. Youre beautiful, youre young, youre intelligent. Youre a proper lady."
Why can't my mother see how snobby and rude Gabriel is? I've explained it to her, over and over again all about his affairs, his blackmailing, and his lack of respect for personal hygene. but like my whole family, all they see, is his money. But I see right through his little mind game. He's a greedy, dirty, smelly, unexcusable jerk. Never, in any of my years, will I marry him.
"Please mother, lets not talk about this right now. Let's lace up my dress." Grabbing the floor length gown off the bed, I step into it, and shimmy the rough, flowing fabric over my hips.
A glance over my shoulder into the mirror surrounding me on three sides to examine the look of my body in the emerald, crystal embellished, cap sleeved dress my mother brought to me just this morning.
"Jane, you look amazing. Gabriel will absolutely adore you in that gown." The smile on her face was shining from ear to ear.
"Mother! I said enough about him. Please." I slide off the pedestal, making sure not to trip over my dress. "Quinn, will you come do up my hair sweetie?" My young servant appears out of the shadows. Her small frame and baby face still has not disappeared after her 13 years.
"Gladly madam. What shall it be this evening?" Her sweet voice always warmed my heart and put a smile on my face. Grabbing a comb and a handful of hair pins, Quinn shuffles over to my side, playing with the little hairs right below my left ear. Grabbing her hand, I squeeze it and place it on my cheek.
"I trust your judgement, you can to whatever makes me look formal, yet natural." Quinn nods her head and smiles, immidiately getting to work out the knots in my brown, twisted hair.
By the time she is through, I had small ringlets piled ontop of my head perfectly, with a braid all the way around my head, with little curls on both sides. Scanning my face, I see exactly the picture that was in my head. "It's beautiful Quinn. Thank you dear, you can go now, and do tell you're mom I said hello."
"She will be delighted to hear from you miss. Best wishes tonight." She gives me a gentle hug, and leaves just as soon as she came.
"You look beautiful darling." My mother appears behind me and places her small pale hand on my shoulder. I look nothing like my mother. Felicity Cane, my mother, has red hair, pale skin, complimented with a short, petite figure and blue eyes. I on the other hand have more of a darker skin tone, with long, wavy brown hair, green eyes, and a taller, curvier frame.
"Thank you mother. Now, if you'd excuse me, I must go speak with my eldest brother." Rising from my seat, I make my way towards the door. I feel so graceful and elegant. I make my way across the room, closing the doors behind me, leaving my mother silent in my room. I am immidiately stopped by a wall of a man. I look up to a man that is towering over me. He is at least 6 feet and 4 inches. Everything about him is breath taking. His body is toned and muscular. His face is manly and has a slight beard. His eyes are an amazing shade of brown, so deep they could make me lose my way. His clothes are baggy, a white button up shirt, rolled up to the elbows, the top three buttons revealing a muscular chest. His lips turn up into a smile, revealing unbelieveable white, perfect teeth.
"Hello gorgeous." He lunges at me, and all I see, is black.
