Chapter 3

Keon looked left and right and saw stairs leading to the next floor. Keon ascended the stairs cautiously. When he reached the top he went left in search of another set of stairs when he rounded a corner he bumped into a guard. "I am dearly sorry I wasn't snooping I was just going to the bathroom. Puzzled, Keon replies with: "well I suggest you get back to your post or I will have your head" " yes, right, sorry and the guard quickly went down the hall. That was lucky, he must have thought I was the warden's son Keon thought.

Keon decided to go back around the corner and take a left. He hurried down the hallway and saw guards round the corner. He quickly slipped into the door on his right. He hid under a desk "are you sure you saw something " yes it was around here somewhere ". Suddenly the door opened and Keon saw two sets of boots enter the room. They guards were checking under each desk. When the guard got to Keon's desk he prepared to run, but he stopped and turned to his partner and said: "maybe I didn't see anything" " alright let's get the others and head back to the barracks for the night.

When Keon heard the door close he got out from under the desk, this is to risky i'll just climb to the next floor he thought.

Keon walked to the window and tried to lift it, but it wouldn't budge, Keon took one of his knives and pried the window open. He stuck his head out the window and looked around there was a window up and slightly to the right. He climbed up the wall but ran out of foot holds right below the window, he jumped and grabbed the window sill. He took a breath and it snapped the window sill broke and Keon fell but grabbed a crack in the stone. He took another breath and jumped and punched the window then fell and grabbed the crack again. He jumped again directly through the window onto the floor.

Keon quietly opened the door it was dark and quiet, he walked down the hall until he found an official looking door, he knocked three times, with no answer so he opened it and went in.

Keon found cell keys on the desk and turned around to find the cells but when he went to open the door it flew opened and a short fat guard bumped into him. They looked at each other shocked, then Keon dashed past the man down the hallway. The guard yelled " stop right there " but Keon kept running. Somewhere to his right a man yelled but he didn't catch it. More guards joined the chase but he kept running left and right and down stairs. Suddenly, Keon found himself cornered he looked around for an exit but to no avail, he closed his eyes and said " ferdge " , a very risky spell, and dropped through the floor.

Keon landed on a guard and quickly covered his mouth and put a knife to his throat " if you move I will kill you " he said. Keon stuffed cloth in his mouth and grabbed some chains he found next to him and tied the guard up.

Keon found that he had dropped into the basement and looked around for the cells. He went through several doors until he found the cells. "Over hear boy, get me out of here I did nothing wrong" one of the men from earlier said. " I didn't do nothin' either get me out" " I have come to get you but if you get in here again I will not come here" they muttered agreements.

Keon quickly opened the cells " thanks lad" they said simultaneously. And the three walked together out a door and into the fenced area around the jail house. "Over here" Keon said and gestured toward the bent bars he had gone through earlier.

They quickly crossed the road into the shadows of the darkness and started walking past houses. "Stop right there" a guard shouted, they took off running and hid in a wagon. "Your on your own Keon whispered" and jumped out and ran back to his house, he quickly got back through his window, and saw Lee sitting on his bed.
