*set two months after Swan Song*
Chapter 1
The bright blue waves crashed onto the shore as a young woman stood on the warm sand, watching as the water rolled in and nearly kissed the tip of her leather boots. Her long blonde hair was flowing freely in the salty breeze. She glanced at the post on the pier that was a few feet away from her, and smiled when she saw that there was a new carving in the wood. It was a heart. And inside the heart, there was a name written. Emma Swan. The lines weren't perfect, but that's what made it feel special. Emma knew who had carved it.
Still smiling to herself, Emma's eyes shifted to the water, sparkling in the sunset. She breathed in the beachy air and it made her heart warm in reminiscence. The fresh smell was so familiar to her. It was a part of him, a part of Killian Jones. She inhaled a strong whiff of it.
"It is hard to stay away from my devilishly irresistible fragrance," said a smooth voice behind Emma. She spun around and nearly jumped when she was almost nose to nose with Killian. Her foot got caught in the sand, causing her to topple backwards. She reflexively reached out and grabbed for Killian's hand, but when she felt cool metal on her skin, she realized that she had gripped his hook. Since the hook was the only thing holding her up, it was not strong enough, and popped right off, throwing her into the frigid water.
Killian reached his real hand out to her, which she graciously grasped, shivering, and he hoisted her up. As soon as she was standing upright, she magically reattached his hook. He looked at her with his piercing blue eyes and she smiled lovingly at him, and he returned with the same, only to start cracking up uncontrollably four seconds later. Emma rolled her eyes and was about to start laughing with him, but then a better idea came to her. She thrust out her hands and shoved him into the waves. It was her turn to laugh, but she did not the reaction she was hoping for. Instead, Killian smiled and ruffled his hair.
"Still devilishly handsome," he said with a wink. She rolled her eyes even farther, to the point where she thought she could see her own brain. "Typical Killian," she thought to herself. She waved her hand through the air and they were both instantly dried.
"We should go home and get ready, Henry's birthday party is in, like, an hour," she warned him, grabbing his hand. They were both swept away in a white cloud of smoke. They reappeared in the living room of the house that Henry had helped Killian pick out.
"Alright, we have a little bit of time to get ready. What are you wearing to the party?" Emma asked. Killian spread his arms out.
"You're looking at it," he said. Emma blinked.
"You are seriously going to wear a leather jacket and a t-shirt to my son's party?" Emma was not very fond of dressing up herself, but she wanted to look nice for her son's fourteenth birthday. "I want Henry to know that his mother and... uh... you care about him." Hook chuckled and Emma realized that she wasn't fully aware of what Killian was to Henry. He treated Henry as his son, and Henry looked to him as if he were his father, but until Emma and Killian got married, Henry would not be the stepson of a pirate.
Killian sighed, nodded, and held out his arms once again. With a flick of Emma's hand, his clothes transformed into a black dress shirt and khakis, and a tie. With her head tilted, Emma scanned the outfit she had conjured. Killian always noticed the way that she looked when she was thinking. Emma shook her head and flicked her hand again, and the tie disappeared.
"Ah, thank you, love. I can breathe," Killian said, grinning. With one last wave, Emma was instantly wearing a light, tan-ish dress that flowed out to her knees, and her hair was in a high ponytail. Killian smiled, his eyes twinkling with a knowing look. That outfit is what Emma wore on their first official date. Although it was interrupted once by a runaway thief, they still had fun (4x04 "The Apprentice").
After Killian peered at Emma for a few solid seconds, she decided to break the silence.
"Okay, we have get going now if we want to get to Granny's early and help decorate," Emma stated.
"As you wish," Killian replied. His comment gained a brief flashback and a smile from Emma. It made her heart ache for that moment back in Neverland, even though they were in distress looking for Henry, it had been a happy few minutes (3x05 "Good Form"). Killian noticed this. "We shouldn't be late, it would be bad form," he said with his Killian Jones smirk.
"Killian. Stop with the memories," Emma said in an annoyed tone. But Hook could see that she was trying to keep a straight face as she said it, and he knew that she secretly loved it when he brought up nice moments. He put his arm around her.
"Alright fine. I just think we have a rather interesting past," Killian said innocently.
"Well, what do you expect, you and my family are all story book characters. We're not exactly normal," Emma said with a smirk.
"Alright, alright. Just, you know, poof us there or something. Enough distractions." He did it again. "That man just cannot help himself, can he," Emma thought, exasperated. Just as before, they were gone in a puff of smoke, white as snow.
