Back then when I was nine years old
I always wished to find some gold
I loved to go and hunt for treasure
It was something I only did for pleasure
One day I found something small and round
I began digging it out of the ground
When I picked up this small round thing
I saw it was a an engagement ring
I ran to my mother and showed her the ring
She laughed and smiled and started to sing
She pushed it onto her little pinky
And said, 'Your father once gave this to me!'
She danced around the kitchen with joy
And told me that I was such a good little boy
Then father strolled into the room
Looking startled and a bit confused
Mother showed him the piece of gold
"I got this when I was twenty-six years old!"
"We lost that when we were gardening,"
"Now let my please try again!"
Mother laughed and I watched in awe
Father swept her off the floor
The ring they once lost was theirs again
And all because of my hunting
I continued to hunt for sparkling gold
But I found nothing and it soon got old
Now at the age of ninety-three
I watch my grandson hunt like me
