I struggled to get up as he walked in. I stood 3 feet away from him as we just stared at each other, until finally he closed the door and motioned for me to sit on the couch. I was hesitant, but I was eager to find out what was going on, so I sat at the opposite end as him, making sure to stay as far away as possible. After a few minutes of just staring at each other, I decided to talk first. "What is going on?" When he looked to the floor and didn't respond, I became enraged. "What the hell is wrong with you?!" I screamed "I have no idea what I'm doing here or why this is happening and you won't even give me answers?!" He looked ashamed for a second, and then angry. He reached over and slapped me across the face. My left cheek burned and tears rolled down my cheeks. "You do not speak to your father like that! Do you want to be punished?!" I let the tears flow down my face "FATHER?!?! I barely know you! you kidnapped me! How dare you!" He calmed down and sat again, making me a little bit less scared. "Listen, I lost my family years ago, and I need a family again. So, Jessica, you are my new daughter." I sat there in disbelief. Daughter? What did he mean he had lost his family? What was this creep gonna do to me? I simply nodded, not wanting to be slapped again. He got off the couch and left without another word. I missed my family. My REAL family. I couldn't believe this was happening. Shock consumed my entire body. What would my family think? Surely they are already looking for me. And my best friend, Kasey. I missed her so much. We had been best friends for 5 years now. I wondered how her and her family felt about me being kidnapped, walking home from their house. I wanted to tell them and my family that is wasn't their fault. It was mine. How could I be so stupid? I laid on the couch feeling numb. I cried for what seemed like hours until I fell into a deep sleep, glad to escape from this nightmare that was unfolding.
