Ok guys, this is my first time writing something. Don't expect anything too major, lol. A certain someone kept nagging me to post something, so here it is! Enjoy!

"You'll do it today, right?"
I glance up from my phone and find my best friend, Harper, centimeters from my face. I jumped back stifling a small yelp as tapped her foot while she waited for my answer.
I rolled my eyes. "When have I ever lied to you?" Harper Ford could be one heck of a hassle. She was always pestering others about many things. I sometimes wondered how we were even best friends.
"Well let's see. There was that one time--"
"Okay, okay! I get it." I facepalmed, "I'll ask Jake before lunch, okay? I know you like him, but are you really that desperate?"
Harper gave me a pointed look. "Uh I've liked him for how long? Two freakin' years?"
I rolled my eyes and smiled. Harper had liked this one guy named Jake since sophomore year. She told me it had started out as a small crush which grew larger and larger until one day, she claimed she was in love. He was honestly becoming an obsession for Harper. I supported her all the way though. I had even begun doing a little matchmaking for her. Our most recent plan involved me asking Jake about what he thought of Harper. I was due to ask him today and Harper was nothing if not anxious. Hopefully, things would turn out well and he would say she was cute or something like that. If things didn't go as planned, Harper would be crushed so I prayed everything would be alright.
My chain of thoughts were broken when the physics teacher, Ms. Thomas, walked in greeting the class. I didn't pay much attention as she took attendance until I noticed the empty seat in front of me. His seat. The seat that belonged to my best guy friend, Alex Fletcher. I know you're probably wondering why that's got me so worked up. Yeah, we're friends....to him. Okay no, I don't actually hate him nor am I only pretending to be his friend. It's actually the opposite of that. I'll never admit this to anyone, but I really like him. It's me who wants to be more than just friends. I guess you're wondering why he doesn't know yet. I hate to say this but either Alex is pretending not to know or he's just damn oblivious. Also, I don't want to ruin our near perfect friendship. Friendship is all I can get now. I'll take it....for now.
"Alex? Alex Fletcher?" Ms. Thomas called while scanning the room, "No Alex today?" All the students just shrugged and Ms. Thomas made a small mark next to Alex's name.
Where is he? Alex isn't usually absent or late. He cared way to much about soccer and his grades to skip and add a mark to his reputation. He was popular and the captain of the soccer team. Haha, so cliché, I know. I sighed and deep in the back of my head, I wished he did come to school today so then I could see him. Okay no. No more of this. I'm turning into Harper. (No offense to her or anything)
"Emery? Emery Lawrence?"
What? Oh attendance. Right. "Here." I said blankly.
She continued on and finished attendance. Alex was the only one missing. I tapped the desk absentmindedly as the teacher went on to explain something about a project. Again, many students, including me, didn't pay much attention until she said something about partners. Obviously that got everyone's attention.
"You will need to complete this with a partner as it will require a lot of work. You will have two weeks to complete the project and it will count for 40% of your final grade." Ms. Thomas explained, "You will work with the person sitting in front of you and that's final. Oh, Emery, you'll have to do the work alone for today since your partner does not seem to be here."
Person in front of me. Person in front of me. That's--
"Hi, sorry I'm late." I froze at the voice, "I had a doctor's appointment. Here's the tardy slip."
"That's fine. I just explained a very important project due in two weeks." Ms. Thomas said, "You are assigned to work with the person sitting behind you."
"Sure, okay." he nodded and turned to look at me. He smiled. At that moment I could've sworn my heart stopped.
