Walking into high school on my first day of year nine wasn't as terrifying as I'd thought. It might've been just because my best friends were right beside me or because I had a tendency to overthink a lot of simple things.

Either way, I had walked out after a perfect first day thinking that high school was way overrated. That high school was going to be easy. Well, at first it was, but that was before one of my good friends decided to show her true colors to the world. Let's just say they aren't pretty.

We had started year nine about a month ago, and so far it was pretty much drama free. We weren't really noticed by many, which was good and bad. Good because teachers didn't usually pick on us unless we had our hands up. Bad because sometimes we were so invisible that people would actually ask if we were new to the school.

Bullying and teasing are just some things that happen during high school, just something that is meant to occur eventually. We were mostly used to random teasing for being antisocial and by how we dressed. We usually ignore it and don't have a care in the world when it comes to teasing. I think that's why we were all surprised when Luke decided to be brave and stand up for Brittany.

She was being teased by some older girls about her glasses. Nothing too major, especially since Brittany had a huge ego. Luke being Luke, however thought that he should stick up for her, and he did. He got beaten by the girls' boyfriends, but at least he did something. That's when the rest of us started to realize something was up.

Whilst my friends and I, excluding Luke and Brittany, were sat around the lunch table, Michael was the one to bring it up.

"Did you guys hear what Luke did?"

"Oh, we heard. Not only that, but we saw. We were right there when it happened." Bianca pointed to herself and Alexandra as she spoke. I guess Ashton hadn't heard of what had happened, because he looked confused, and I didn't blame him. We were being quite vague, and if I hadn't already been aware of the news, I would've been just as confused as Ashton.

Ash turned my way, looking to see if I knew what they were talking about, since I was the only one who hadn't contributed to the conversation. "What are you guys talking about? And where're Luke, Cal, and Brittany? It's not like them to miss lunch."

"Cal had football practice and Luke and Britt-" I cut Katherine off.

"Luke and Britt are probably off somewhere snogging each other's faces off."

Everyone laughed except Bianca and Ashton, who was still confused. He looked at Bianca with a questioning look before speaking. "Um, since when are Brittany and Luke a thing?"

"They're not!" Bianca snapped. "He was just being nice and stood up for her! That's how Luke is, nice. And I'll have you know that right now, Luke is in detention with Mr. Bruce for not turning in his homework. As for Brittany, I can't answer that, since she doesn't even talk to me anymore."

With that, Bianca got up from her seat and stormed out of the lunch room, long hair flailing all over the place. Ashton was about to get up and follow her out, when Alexandra stopped him.

"Leave her. Right now she just needs some space. She'll be easier to talk to after she's cooled off a bit, anyway." Ashton took one last wishful glance at the door before he sat back down.
