Paige's POV:
It was raining harder, the lightning and thunder was almost none stop. Wesley stayed by my side throughout everything. However, our first activities split the genders up so it was all females doing one thing and all the males doing another. I felt like I couldn't breath. It was a first that someone clamed me so easily...
"Are you alright Paige?" I hear Pastor Katie's voice and I look up, feeling my stupid tears well in my eyes. I quickly blink them away and nod.
"Well, if you need me, I'll be around." Pastor Katie rubs my shoulder and I go back to the activity. Our first activity was any sorts of arts and crafts for the females. I didn't know what to males were doing but I heard the brothers from over where I was. I turned my head to look over my shoulder and see Wesley talking to Luke, the student council president at our school. He glances up at me and I quickly turn away. Suddenly, the lights flicker and the girls scream and giggle while the boys all hoot and holler. I quickly get up and run to the warehouse where normally the very small kids went during sermons. I find the foam pit that they normally have and dive into it, hiding in the shapes. Another lightning strick hits but the church this time, making the lights go out, some of the bulbs exploding, sending glass everywhere. I hear the girls scream and hear chairs moving.
"Stay calm everyone! Go get the flashlights and lets do a head count!" I hear Father Simon's deep voice boom and echo while everyone calms down.
"Where's Paige!?" I hear Pastor Katie say frantically.
"What do you mean? She is right he-" one of the girls go to point where I formally was and yells.
"SHE'S MISSING! MISSING A TEEN!" All the commotion alerts the boy's side.
"I saw her run to the warehouse." I hear Dorian say out loud. Someone's foot steps runs to the room I am in and I see a flashlight's rays.
"Paige?... You in here? Remember what I said early?..." I hear Wesley's voice and I only move an inch, my face a little above the foam shapes in the pit. I hear his feet shuffle a bit and when I hear them come closer, I dive deeper into the pit, stirring some of the shapes and alerting his attention so he shines the light on the foam pit and looks around. I try to keep my sniffles to a minimum and as silent as I can.
"Paige... Come on... come out... its just the storm... Your mom will be alright... I bet she's coming right now...." I hear the desperation in his voice to trying to make me come out and it melts me. I thrash a bit and climb my way back up to the surface of foam and my head pops up right in the beam of light.
"Oh Paige..." He smiles crookedly and helps me out and I just sit on my feet and look down at the ground that has clusters of shattered glass.
"I-I lost m-my shoes..." I look back at the pit and frown.
"I'll tell the pastors that you did. We should probably get back to the rest so you don't cause any more panic." He lifts me up and walk blindly. We get close to the exit when I feel a sharp pain in my foot and gasp.
"O-Ouch!" I lift my foot off the ground and hop a bit. I tap Wesley's shoulder and he shines the light on my foot. A huge glass piece is wedged in my foot, blood oozing slowly from the wound and trailing thickly down my foot, dropping into a small pool on the ground.
"Oh shit..." Wesley's beautiful green eyes widen, concern filling them as he puts the flashlight in between his teeth and picks me up, getting me away from any glass, and sets me down, putting the injured foot in his lap and looks carefully at the glass.
"T-Take I-it out..." I whimper as tears well in my eyes again as the pain flares on and off.
"This will hurt..." He looks up at me and frowns.
"Just count to three with me."
"One..."
"Two..."
"Three!..." He takes out the shard and I cry in pain, bringing my foot away from him, putting the hell of the foot on the ground and putting my face in my knees and crying in the pain. I hear him start to move next to me and he puts his hands on my arms and picks me up softly, trying not to hurt the foot anymore than it does and set me on the floor between his legs. I set my head on his chest and try to calm my tears and he wraps me in his embrace. I get a warm feeling throughout my body once his arms tighten around me, making a "home" of sorts as my cries become softer and quieter. My cries stopped and the bleeding has slowed to a near stop. A phone starts vibrating and I sniffle and look up at Wesley and see him check his phone.
"Hello?" He answers the phone.
"Yeah I got her....... Yeah. She lost her shoes where she was hiding and stepped on glass.... Yes I handled it...... Paige and I are still in the warehouse...... tell the pastors this...... Alright! Bye bro." He hangs up and pulls me into a full embrace again, my completely silent.
"Why did you hide in there?... You could've gotten hurt by falling shards when the bulbs exploded." He looks down at me and I feel his gaze on the top of my head and I just shrugged. I honestly didn't know why I hid there myself but it was instinct.
"W-We should get b-back t-to the o-o-others..." I stutter and looks up at him and he nods and smiles brightly. I couldn't help but smile back sheepishly. He helps me to my feet and him and I slowly make our back.
