Harry’s POV

Ted left the room still laughing, that cold smile plastered on his face. I don’t know what was more scary; the fact that I remember simple things like the date and how old I am, but I can’t remember a single thing after sophomore year. I mean, that’s not normal is it? I’m 18, surely I didn’t get held back two years in a row, right? That’s probably the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard; I’d never received a grade under a high mark, how could I’ve been held back?

And this boyfriend thing… What? Sure, I looked at guys differently than girls after Cindy, but I was finding myself, right? I’m sure everyone’s thought about the other team at least once or twice, I can’t be the only one. But, I had a boyfriend? Did he play into this whole thing, where I suddenly can’t remember the past two years? And then I remembered a certain brown haired boy with warm brown eyes that always seemed to be there for me.

Liam.

Did he know about this? Did he know where I was? His mom’s an agent, surely they’re looking for me? How did I even get here? Who even is Ted? What does he want from me? My brain was about to burst out of my skull, my thoughts were coming so fast. I settled down into the surprisingly comfortable bed I was laying in and closed my eyes, willing myself to fall asleep and wake to discover it was all a bad dream.

Liam’s POV

“There are four Paul Martin’s in our area, but only one with a criminal record. I pulled up his files and a bunch of video clips came up of him sneaking around the downtown area. This is it, Zayn. We can find Harry.” The look in Zayn’s face nearly tore my heart out, his eyes showing nothing but fear and his jaw clenched in anger at this Paul Martin character who’d taken the love of his life. He stood up abruptly and walked to the door, grabbing his jacket and shrugging it on.

“Right. So we’re leaving, yeah?” He asked, his voice hard yet shaky at the same time. Me and mum exchanged a glance before she tossed me the keys to her car and a map of all the areas Paul’d been seen in recently.

“I’ll be right behind you, I just need to make sure I close down the basement.”

“But mu-“

“Go, Liam.” She turned to Zayn. “Go get him.” She murmured, and rushed off to the staircase. I opened the front door and let Zayn out, closing it behind the both of us.

After driving for about five minutes, I handed Zayn the map and asked for directions to the nearest point. “Turn left up here.” He said in a small voice, his eyes barely leaving the map. I reached over and put my hand on his knee, getting his attention.

“This is the easy part, Zayn. The hardest part of our job is locating people. Paul didn’t clean up enough of his tracks and we picked up his scent. We’ll get Harry back.” I said in an encouraging voice.

“But what if something goes wrong, Liam? Did you ever think of that? What if we don’t get there in time? Or someone gets hurt in the process? I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if you or your mum got hurt, Liam.” Tears silently slipped down his cheeks, his eyes big and brown and lost.

“Give us more credit, Zayn. We just have to track Paul, and follow him wherever he goes. He won’t know we’re following him. We’ve done this too many times to fuck it up.” I said, silently pleading for him to stop worrying. Mum’s the best in the business, there’s no scenario where we don’t come out on top.

At least, that’s what I thought.

Karen’s POV

After locking up the basement and weaving my way through traffic to find that familiar black car, I shot Liam a text and watched through his mirrors as his buzzed head bent to read it.
