Dave strider thought he was going crazy. I mean who in there right minds dreams about the same blue eyed boy every day for nearly a year
And fall for them?!? That's just not normal, and Dave's sister Rose had agreed.  She found it quiet amusing though, and once she started cracking jokes on his little crush is when he stopped telling her about the blue eyed boy and just said that the dreams ended
They didn't of course.
And she was suspicious but dropped it after a while, which Dave was thankful of.
Lately the dreams have been getting longer though and the boy had been talking more too. Dave couldn't help but look into those blue eyes and feel like the boy was paying all of his attention on him and like he cared, but he's not real so why was he making such a impact on Dave? Why was Dave feeling all warm and happy when he saw the boy smile- the boy always smiled!- why couldn't Dave wait to sleep just to see a imaginary boy? Why did the boy seem so familiar? Dave didn't have a answer for any of these questions and he didn't really want one. They would only cause more questions for him.

Dave yawned as he fell back on his bed, shades removed and sat on his nightstand with other numerous things. Dave had came home from school early due to throwing up in the middle of algebra. He didn't really care though, he didn't like school that much. He sighed as he rolled onto his side, eyes drooping and slowly, he let himself succumb to the ever pleasant sleepyness that was consuming really.
The blue eyed boy was there and he seemed sad about something, but also happy about something else, melancholy really. Dave didn't say anything about it though, not that he could of course, Dave had never been able to speak in these dreams, just listen and watch the blue eyed boy as time passed. Speaking of the boy, he was currently dragging Dave by the hand to what looked like a field. It was sunny and hot, the boy didn't seem to mind and neither did Dave, wasn't as hot as Texas anyways. Dave squeezed the boys hand as they walked forward. Dave realized the boy was humming after a few more minutes. Strange. Dave just kept following him though
Well that is until the boy stopped once the field cleared out some. He blinked and looked around, realizing they where on a hill now. Odd... He didn't question it, just turned back towards the boy who was smiling warmly at him. He smiled back slightly, letting out a breath he didn't know he was holding. The boy started talking but Dave could only make out a few words. "How....re....o..?" Dave took a minute to understand before just shrugging in response. The boy deflated slightly but kept his gleaming smile. Dave didn't know why he felt so safe here. He knew this wasn't normal, he knew something was probably wrong with him, if only he knew what."...ve.....I....th...nk..... Y...r..... Di-" before the boy could finish, Dave was suddenly jerked awake by Rose shaking him harshly, a worried look on her face. Dave blinked and looked around the room only just now realizing that Dirk was at his other side, frowning. Bro wasn't there though, probably still sleeping or out working, Dave looked back at Rose confused before feeling a warm liquid on his lip. He dabbed his finger on his lip and pulled it back to reveal blood. His eyes widened and he froze up.
Fuck.
He also felt tears mingled in, and sighed."what...happened..?" He croaked, voice cracking. Rose sighed."I had heard screaming. I thought maybe Dirk had bombarded you with smuppets and was hoping to watch the rest of your freak out, but once I walked into your room I saw that you seemed to be in serious pain, screaming and hacking. I tried waking you up." She finished, eyebrows creased in worry."we should get you to a doctor." Dave just waved her off and tried to lay back down, but felt a sieving pain in his side and winced as he sat back up quickly.".. Fine. But who's drivin'?" Dave asked, reaching for his shades. Dirk raised his hand silently and stood up, along with rose who of course did so much more graceful. Dave wondered if he came in after her. Probably. Rose helped him out of bed even after his protest. He sighed and followed them to the car, preoccupied with what the blue eyed boy was going to say. He sighed, rubbing his eyes as they got in the car silently.

Dave sat tapping his foot agitated as they waited to be brought in to see what was wrong with him. After a few more minutes the doctor finally came and got him before taking him to the room where Doctor stuff happens. He sighed and sat down, watching them as they checked to see what's wrong. Dave didn't really care though.
That is until they said it could be fatal
And Dave might have a few months left to live.

It was a rough couple days after that. Dave didn't go to school because they were all to worried he might collapse during school and would rather him be in a safe place if anything went wrong. Dave's dreams continued and they seemed to keep getting longer and he could make out a few more words that the blue eyed boy spoke. He even learned his name. John.
And Dave couldn't stop thinking of that name. Not even when he was vomiting in the toilet after two weeks of bed riddening.

It was about a month later when they took him back in after catching him choking on his own blood, unable to scream for help since he couldn't get himself back upwards. He was sleeping during it too, talking to John.
John was smiling down at him, Dave had been lying down in the daisies John had taken him to-John really liked flowers for some reason-. Dave waved at him and sighed as John told him about his favorite movie, from what Dave could make out it was con air. Dave though it was dorky and John somehow knew he thought that and just lightly shoved him. He soon sat with him, holding his hands and Dave realized he was crying. He wanted to know why as he wiped the tears away, worried for this boy he was suddenly spiraling into love with. The boy just looked at him with a sad smile and said "I'm sorry d-" and then he awoke choking and crying and unable to sit up and turn his head.
When they took him in the doctor took his family out of the room to tell them the news. And by the way rose collapsed on the floor, losing all sense of pride and her usual elegance and how Dirk rubbed behind his shades trying to keep his cool and how bro seemed to stiffen just a bit, Dave knew it couldn't have been good.

Dave spent the next few months in the hospital, hacking and choking, his family at his side the whole time. His friends karkat, jade and Terezi showing up everyday and staying for as long as they could. Jade would stay the longest, wanting to spend as much time with him if he didn't make it. She had lost someone in her family about a year ago, Dave didn't know him personally but jade had regretted not spending more time with him once he was sick almost everyday of her life. She was certain that he would make it, she would say, but Sadly he didn't and she had ran straight in the hospital room only to see him turn his head towards her a pained smile on his lips before the line went dead. Dave had only made her tell the story once, never bringing it up again. She would tell him about the boy almost everyday now though, she talked about how he was strong and how he smiled through it all and how he'd always say 'time flys slower when your dying jade, it's like being stuck in molasses. It sucks but what can you do right?' She thought that they could do more. Dave actually agreed with what her family member had to say about dying. It did seem slower. On the night the doctors where sure he would kick the bucket his family and friends sat in the room crying and trying to comfort him. He just sighed as he could feel himself giving out and said with his last breath "you can't get rid of me that easily. I'll haunt each of ya in your dreams you fuckin 'mazin peopl..." And then it went black

Dave heard a giggle before his eyes opened only to meet blue."John..?" He croaked and woah- wait- isn't this a dream? He shouldn't be able to- "hi Dave! It's great to finally hear you speak." John grinned, hitting his shoulder gently."I bet you have a lot of questions huh?" He asked, siting next to Dave."well...yeah. Didn't I die?" He asked suspiciously. Johns smile faltered slightly."yeah.... You did. You've kinda been conversing with a dead guy for a whole year! I uhm died about the same time you did but last year. You actually knew my sister jade." He said. Daves train of thoughts went blank."so....you dead... And you decided to hijack my dreams instead of talking to your sister in her dreams? Damn John, who woulda thought you'd rather talk to strangers then family. Sad." He shook his head, smiling slightly. John made a offended noise and scoffed."I couldn't really do that since she wasn't dying Dave. Your death was inevitable so I thought that when you died you might... Want a friend." John mumbled, looking off in the distance. Dave remembered coming to this hill with John before and smiled."heh, well at least I know she isn't dying. And thanks, but how do you even know me?"
"Oh! Hehe jade never shut up about you! I kinda saw you a lot at school to? I had almost every class with you. I also kinda got a crush on you?" He said blushing. Dave shook his head again and said."shit no way, me too." They smiled at each other and John stood up."well, we should get going. I wanna show you everything, dead buddy." He smiled and offered Dave his hand which he gladly took. "Yeah." He nodded following john as they ran off into the fields.
