"My father... Father... My fa..."
Myles mumbled into my lap as I cleaned his wounds. The bastards had beaten him, this was the worst yet. I gleaned his problems from his mumblings. Something was wrong with his father. And judging by the defensive wounds showing up, he was enraged with whatever news they told him. His father was dead.
His sadness seemed to crawl over me, it had to be the... bond. It felt strange to think of having a mate, stranger yet that he was willing to take all of this in order to keep me safe. God's, I really don't deserve him.
Myles stirred and blinked at me. "My father..." He took a large breath, "My father is dead." His eyes watered and his breath hitched.
I pulled him to my chest and let him cry, felling every sob that racked him.

It was hours later that he was asleep. I gently laid him down. I need to find the keys.
I made my way to father in record time. He was asleep in the corner of his cell. I gently shook his shoulder.
His hand shot out, aimed directly at my stomach. I jumped back while slapping his hand away. "Father."
He lifted his head at the word. "Oh, it's only you. Good thing you're quick, I would've felt terrible if I had disemboweled my daughter." He gave a small, tired smile.
I touched the bags under his eyes, "Why are you so tired, father? I would think you'd be living in luxury and taking day long naps."
"Why would I take a nap when I could be looking for a way out?" He grinned and held up the small ring of keys.
"Did you find a way out?" I asked excitedly.
"I believe so. But it'll be risky." He swirled the keys around his index finger. "The guards are sleeping in front of it."
The door I was pushed down must be with the guards. That complicates things.
"But," father continued, "I found Hallsy, he said you had visited him. He has a plan that can get us out without so much as a peep. Or we can try the direct method."
"Both." I answer.
He looks vaguely impressed, "Well someone taught you right; don't just finish a job, do it well."
"Yes, yes, now what's the plan." I was much too happy about leaving to think on formalities.
"Well someone's excited. Anyway, he has hemlock. We spike a drink or some food and poof, we weaken them long enough that we can beat down anyone who tries to stop us. Then we take their keys and lock the door, let them starve and rot until some type of authority can pick them up."
I thought for a few minutes, "Water, it's the only thing every human has to consume; we taint the water line."
"Exactly my thoughts. But we need to find the water line. And make sure that none of us drink it." He placed the keys in my hand, "Make sure to tell Hallsy."
I gave him a quick hug and left in search of the water.
So sorry about the wait. But I will try to update at least somewhere in the beginning of April. Thank you so much for your patience!
