Chapter Two

My friends and I quickly jumped out of our seats and started to speed walk down the hall to chamber 623. Our chamber isn't horribly far from the cafeteria, so we hadn't a need to run. We got to our chamber with a minute to spare. I was pleased to know that none of my friends would be getting punished today. At least, as of now. We were all seated at these long tables that each sat two people. Our seats were assigned, and luckily I was sat next to Jessamine. It worked out for the rest of my friends as well, as Caspian was sat with Tyrus and Nadia was sat with Damian.

"I wonder what we are actually going to do," said Jessamine.

"I hope something that is at least somewhat interesting," I replied. She agreed.

We then saw a boy being pushed into the chamber by a muscular man.

"I better not see you out of your chamber during work hours again!" then man hollered as he slammed the door shut. The boy rose from the floor and walked to his seat. Jessamine looked to me with a face that looked as if she had just watched her parents be murdered. I gave her a look of reassurance and it worked. Thank goodness, I thought to myself.

A boy, who looked to be only a year or two older than me, walked in. He stood in the front of the room. He was simply handsome with chiseled cheekbones and a sharp jawline. He had golden brown hair and ocean blue eyes. He was wearing the same outfit as the rest of us, just black. Jessamine and I looked at one another, as if stunned by his beauty. He looked to a piece of paper held in his hands.

"Venus Abbot, Nadia Cline, Tyrus Dewlter, Warren Fannett, Caspian Howler, Jessamine Krum, Israel Lowry, Damian Menalter, Ivory Oren, and Aspen Striker. Please stand before me," he said as he looked up from the paper. The ones called were all sitting in the very back, which included my friends and myself.

"Follow me," he nodded at a door.

We all followed him through the door into a room with much larger desks than the previous room, each with only one chair. On each desk there was a computer, a stack of white paper, a cup with pencils and pens, and many other office supply items. I looked at the other teens, there were four that I haven't spoken to yet. In total, there were only ten of us, five girls and five boys, along with the older boy.

"Alright everyone, take your seats. Each of the desks has one of your names on it. They are placed in alphabetical order by surname," said the boy. I was in the last seat in the back row. There were two rows, each with five desks. Since we were in alphabetical order, Caspian was seated in front of me. Two people who I didn't know were seated to the left of Caspian and me.

"Looks like everyone is here," said the older boy, "Alright, so my name is Xavier. I'm your master-"

"Master?" said Tyrus cutting Xavier off.

"I never knew that you were given permission to speak," Xavier said as he passed to looked down to Tyrus' name tag, "... Tyrus."

Tyrus gulped and slid back in his chair.

"That's what I thought," said Xavier.

An older woman entered the room. She slowly paced around to each desk.

"Venus Abbot... Nadia Cline... Tyrus Dewlter... Warren Fannett... Caspian Howler..." she slowly walked back along the front row, glanced to Xavier, then followed along the path of desks.

"Jessamine Krum... Israel Lowry... Damian Menalter... Ivory Oren... and... Aspen Striker," she said as she stopped in front of my desk. She was staring me down, then brought her eyes up to meet my worried ones.

"I've heard of what you are capable of..." she said then turned to walk back to the front of the room. Capable? I thought to myself.

"You better not screw this up again," she said to Xavier.

"Yes Ma'am."

"Alright everyone, my name is Mrs. Zacharias. Now I bet you are all wondering why you have been brought here," said the woman. We all slowly nodded in agreement.

"You ten have shown the highest IQ scores out of the 6,240 teens who have been brought here. All off the chambers have ten teens, except the last chamber, number 623. This chamber has twenty, you ten and the ten who stayed in the other room. All of the teens here are assigned a task, well, more like a job, because of this large facility that we are occupying. You all will have the most difficult and intricate job we have. Not because we want you to suffer, but because we believe that you will be most capable for succession with this task. I will not be with you all every day, as I am not your master. Your master is Xavier. He will show you the 'ins and outs' of your job," Mrs. Zacharias said and took a moment to catch a breath, "Any questions?"

Nadia's hand shot up at the mention of questions.

"Yes... Nadia, is it?" asked Mrs. Zacharias.

"Yes Mrs. Zacharias, and may I ask... what exactly is the job that we will be doing?"

Mrs. Zacharias directed her focus to Xavier, "Why don't you inform them Xavier?"

A/N: Hey everyone! I'm really sorry that it took so long for chapter two to be published. With the New Year I have been busy getting back into the swing of school, golf, and band. I've been having to balance my time and have had to unfortunately neglect writing. I will try to start a better schedule of chapter updates for you guys. My plan is to update a chapter every two weeks. I know that seems like a long time, but I really want to try and produce the best content for you guys. The way I see it is that if I am given more time, I can write longer and much more detailed chapters, and that was my goal for this story. Thank you guys for understanding and more importantly, thank you for reading the story and for your support. If you want, you can follow me on my social media:
