The shadowy lane twisted and turned past the old mills building and disappeared from view in several spots. The rattling and creaking sound of an old building added an eerie sub tone to the place. The sidewalk was chipped and fractured, and seemed to shake whenever the chilling breeze would pass by. There were barely any houses that bordered the street, but the ones that did were torn apart and abandoned, with dark red graffiti sprayed around them, and shattered windows that seemed to house the souls of the deceased. Dim street lights were scattered along the roads, some bent and broken, others old and rusty. Although plentiful, the glow these lights gave off was eerie and supernatural, flicking at the slightest hint of movement, and barely managing to keep themselves alive. Strange shadows and foreign voices echoed off the walls, sending a chill — or maybe several — down the spines of anyone who dared to enter.
"You have to make a choice Kacey, who's it gonna be?" Dillon hissed.
"Me or Dillon." David interrupted, looking me up and down.
"You seriously can't be expecting me to make this choice. I'm in love with both of you!" I answered, hot tears streaming down my face.
"No. Don't you dare say that. You can love two people, but you could never be in-love with two people."
Those words that Dillon spoke hurt. A lot. Mostly, because it's true. I had to choose one of them. But what's the problem? I'll tell you. They're twins. Twin brothers. Both in-love with me. Both fighting for me. Both here making me choose.
David is dangerous.
Dillon is safe.
But David makes me feel alive.
And Dillon just makes me happy.
See how hard it is?
The moon was gleaming a ghostly shimmer, the clouds covering part of it which caused it to look blurry and as if some mystical, fictional animal was going to appear out of nowhere and howl.
"Make. A. Choice." Dillon demanded, gripping my arm tightly. Desperation in his eyes.
"Impatient, Dillon," David's husky, raspy voice said, a drawl in his tongue.
"You better shut the hell up David." Dillon hissed.
"Oh yeah?" David walked over to Dillon. "Make me."
"You know I could do that easily David, I am your twin brother. You know that well."
"I know you're just jealous Dillon, is it because Kacey got bored of you? Or is it because she wanted the better twin, because she realised all this time she was with the wrong one. The soft, boring, un interesting one." David spat the words out like venom, just like acid dripping from his lips.
Within just seconds, Dillon's fist made contact with David's jaw, sending him off to the ground. At that exact moment, David couldn't really remember what happened. It took him several seconds to achieve his goal on finding out the previous events. But before that, he found himself sputtering curses laced with blood and crumpled to the ground. He swung around a punch, hitting the Dillon who was on top of him causing him to fall again.
David's jaw twitched before he cracked his neck, followed by his knuckles, hearing the popping sound, but at the same time, he felt his body relax. He popped up his collar and slyly smiled pulling himself up.
This was my worst nightmare.
"Boys, stop!" I screeched at the top of my lungs.
But none of them would listen.
David's hand — still clenched into a tight fist — flicked out venomously at Dillon's face causing Dillon to roar with pain. Dillon swiftly covered his face with the shields of his arms as he harmlessly clanged off David, clenching his jaw and preparing himself for the next punch. David tried something new, this time whipping his arm speedily at Dillon's unprotected legs. Dillon leaped nimbly to one side and swung his fist in a flashing arc which severed the left side of David's cheek.
