The Princess

Thump! As I was getting up in the early morning, I tripped over some very odd shaped object on my floor. I looked up from where I had just fallen. I saw a clump of midnight black hair and the object was trembling, and it sounded like it was crying. Then I realized what or more precisely, who I tripped over.

'Mina? Why is he in my room and what's wrong with him?' I thought as I decided to get something descent to wear instead of my night clothes. I then put my hair up in a normal bun and grab my baby brother, who was maybe sleeping. As I walked the corridors of the palace, there was no sound what so ever. Which there is normally, because of my older step sister, who talks way to much about marriage and children. I walked passed the imperial gardens where my stepmother ,Yin, is normally admiring the beautiful flowers in the morning.

Then this putrid smell hit my nose, it sort of smelled like the weapons of the guards and army men used. As I continued to where the rest of my family should be at this time, the smell had worsened. I had to cover my nose with my hand, and I move Mina's head into my kimono. I finally reached my father's chamber, and then I felt like regurgitating, the smell was without any doubt the smell of blood. Stood frozen in the stench of blood, I reached out for the sliding door with one arm and in the other was my brother.

"Mother, Father, Yin, are you okay?" I asked as I carefully went inside the room. But in an instant I regretted even going, because there was this man in all black holding a bloody sword to Yin's throat. I saw blood dripping from her mouth as she turned to face us.

"Kaya........Mina......escape...," she said as she coughs blood, "Stay......safe you.....two." Yin said in this panting voice, as more blood came out of her thin,pink lips. I quickly turn around running away from the palace, I ran as fast as I could without dropping Mina. I didn't want to see the end of Yin life, she was basically my second mother.

"Kaya," A shaky voice said, then I heard loud sobbing coming from my arms.

'Mina,' I thought, 'Oh no, he must of saw that black clad man killing...... Oh Mina.' I then squeezed him closer to my body. I turned around to check if that man was following us. He followed us for a bit but then he stopped.

"Lady Kaya, and Prince Mina the niece and nephew of the current emperor of the Song Dynasty. I would kill you but if I do what good would that do? I mean Kaya you're not even of full blood of the Song Dynasty. And that boy is completely useless," The man asks in a loud scruffy voice. I swear it was like I was hearing a demon or a foul creature talking to me in his deep voice.

"Why?" I asked shaking uncontrollably now, "Why did you do that?! They didn't deserve this!!" I yelled at him. But I was cautious of what I was saying, I didn't want to end up dead, and ruin Yin's last wishes.

"Why? I did that because of what they did to so many people a long time ago. But you weren't born yet so I'll spare you two," He said. I wanted to yell back at him but then mist started to come in and it took him with it. Now I really thought he wasn't human. Because no normal human would do any of this.

'And what did he by not even full blood? Never mind that now, I have much more concerning items at hand now,' I thought trying to figure out what he meant.

"Big sister where are going?" Mina asked me as he started to calm down a wiped away his tears. His big glossy looking eyes are staring straight into mine.

"I don't, Mina," I tell him as I start to walk in the direction I was running to. I knew there was a village off that way from father taking me there. I was petting Mina's head trying to calm my traumatized four year old brother. "But we can stop at the village that is a little ways towards the mountains," I tell him, as look over to the mountains.
