Chapter 1

I followed Miska slowly through the woods with only the hope that we'd stop soon because of my aching feet that I hadn't been off of since this morning.

Miska could feel me as I slowed my pace and let go of her long fur. She turned around and nudged me with her white snout.

" We have to keep moving child.. Before dusk."

I nodded and followed Miska as fast as I could. The snow grew deeper almost to my stomach now. Miska glanced back at me.

" Maybe if you shifted it would be easier?"

I looked up to the sky and held my hand over my eyes to shade them as I squinted.

" It wouldn't hurt to shift for a little while." I said.

I shifted into my other form, which was a tan horse with a black snout and black socks. I jump through the snow with Miska and when the snow soon turned to grass melting the closer we got to the city we ran the same speed and stayed side by side.

Town wasn't far, but neither was the distant sound of dogs barking.

" Miska." I gasped.

" I hear them. I hear them. Well have to hurry. Shift back and get on my back."

I did as told and she flew through the land dodging all the trees and jumping through bushes as quickly as she could.

Soon we arrived at the city, and I found a merchant that was planning to help us.

" I've found this ship."

" A ship!?" Miska said.

" A ship?" I repeated.

" A ship." he confirmed. " The captain can take you where you need to go."

" I thought this is where we needed to go." Miska growled.

I echoed her word, being more of a messenger then a part of the conversation.

" No. No. You need to get to Raiaria!" he said pointing to a country on the map in his store.

" then you'll go to Cripston Town, which Captain William will get you there." he said looking up at a man standing in the door way.

The young man bowed and took off his hat.

" The ShapeShifter! I'd never thought id meet you. It is an honor!" he said.

I could feel my cheeks turn red making him smile at me.

" I'll get you and your lion to Cripston Town soon enough."

" Lion?!" Miska roared.

" She's a tiger." I laughed awkwardly.

" Oh excuse me I've never known my animals well."

The merchant placed a hand on William's shoulder and howled.

" He may not be much for brains but he sure is the finest sailer I've ever met!"

" And I'd certainly give my life for you." he bowed again and held a hand out the door ready to escort me.

" He may be a fool, but he is a sweet fool at that, he better keep his hands to himself or ill..."

" Hush Miska."

" What?" William asked confused.

" Miska." I pointed to Miska. " She talks."

" She talks? I haven't been hearing her."

" Well you can't understand her."

" No, I guess I can't." he chuckled. " Hopefully you'll tell me what she says more often!"

" So you have a ship?" I said trying to make conversation as we walked towards the dock.

" A ship. And a dragon." He beamed.

" A dragon? No way." I said in awe.

" Yes a dragon."

" A real one?"

He nodded. " One and only!"

" wow!"

He glanced at me as my expression became further excited.

" Your excited about my dragon almost as much as I was excited about you and Miska." He smiled.

" You were excited to meet us?" I gander at Miska who growls.

" Watch your hands boy.."

I giggle softly at Miska leaving William oblivious.

" What did she say?" he looked from me to Miska.

" Nothing you'd like to hear." I chuckled.

" She doesn't like me?"

" With a passion." Miska growled.

" Miska please." I pleaded for her blessing.

" What?" William was still baffled.

" She likes you enough. She just teases." I assured.

He half smiled. " Well I like her."

Miska groaned and rolled her eyes.

" Haha! I think thats the same in ever language!" William hooted.

Miska gave a small chuckle. " The boys not that bad if he can keep his jokes up."

I nodded and giggled.
