This is a short story about two people that starts of as enemies that quickly became friends. They protected each other because they cared. True friendship is important. Even your enemy can become your best friend. This story is about the values of true friendship and forgiveness.
We started of as enemies. We bully each other, we pick on each other and we say hurtful things to one another. Suddenly, things changed between the two of us. It all started in the middle of the school year.
You told me you wanted to be friends because our arguments have gotten tiring. You asked me if we can start all over again. We started hanging out, we even went to each other's houses to play video games and watch chick flicks. You even stayed with through the whole film. You help me with my homeworks as I do your's.
We were like siblings who were very protective of each other. We built a wall around us that no one can break. No one but us. I treated you as an older brother. When some jock teased me, you were there to protect me. I'm thankful for that.
You were a shoulder to cry on whenever I felt lonely. We shared our secrets and once, you told me, "Bestfriends share secrets. Even the darkest ones but sometimes, we have to wait for the right time."
After you told me that, you acted different around me. You gave me these creepy stares and your beautiful eyes sparkle with every smile you made. You kept giving me hugs. So, I started getting suspicious. Whenever I ask you what's wrong, you always respond with nothings and I'm fines, then you'll change the subject. So I let it go.
In the middle of summer, after sophomore year, you moved away. I never got to see you and I never got to ask why. No farewells were given. But you sent me a letter.
Dear Kayla,
Hey, I'm sorry if I acted weird around you for the past few weeks. It's because I have leukemia. Remember the time I told you about the "darkest secrets" thing-y? Well, this is the "right time". I'm sorry for acting like I was fine. The reason that I wanted to be friends with you because I wanted you to forgive me for all the things I've done to you. I really am sorry. By the time you receive this letter, I'm probably already gone. But, please, promise me something. Stay strong and no matter what happens, just remember, I'm always here for you.
Love, Trent
It's been a year since I lost you. I kept my promise. I stayed strong. Everytime I think of you, I always want to breakdown and cry. My life has changed a little when you left. I have friends that are always there for me. Just like you. And I'm proud to say that you've been my bestfriend. And don't worry, I forgave you. A loooooooong time ago. I hope you forgive me too. For not helping you through that. For now, I'll just say: I miss you. You'll always be in my heart. Until next time.
