I sat in the bed, the quill wrapped around my purple silk pyjamas, as I watched the clock tick past midnight. Keith was out so I figured this was the perfect time to call Trent over. I felt that I loved him too much to let one of my silly mistakes ruin my relationship with him and not to mention my brothers; I knew they were close friends as Keith did whatever was asked of Trent. My mind still wondered about the newspaper I was reading about Tracy and what my brother and his friends were saying about Cassidy. About attacking the weakest they had said. Maybe when he came over I could convince him to stop and think about what he was planning to do and that there was always the possibility of forgiveness. Trent had forgiven Josh which was something I thought I’d never see in my entire life, so why couldn’t he forgive whatever Cassidy had done. He had told me that she broke his heart a long time back but I never held a grudge against her because she was one of the nicest people I knew. The disgusted looks that Trent showed her seemed to cause no flicker in her dashing and selfless personality. They didn’t seem to be the perfect couple but somehow they would have made it work, until, as Trent said, she broke his heart into two fragile pieces. My thoughts were interrupted by a friendly knock on the door.
‘Come in!’ I shouted as the door swung open and walked in a happy and content Trent.
‘Hey baby, you’re looking very cute in those PJ’s.’ he complimented. A happy Trent was the best Trent. But the best Trent rarely lasted long.
‘Why thank you.’ I said grinning tapping the empty space next to me in the bed. Kicking his shoes of he jumped into the bed pulling me into his broad chest. He arms slithered around me as I dug my face into his shirt taking in his scent. But no doubt in my mind, a the best Trent was here.
‘Where’s Keith?’
‘He’s gone out with John.’ I answered.
‘Where?’ he asked.
‘I don’t know. He didn’t say. He just said that they were going out and that they would be back pretty late.’ I waited then asked, ‘Trent, you know how…you were saying. I mean, how…what you were saying about Cassidy?’
‘Yeah?’
‘What…what are you planning to do exactly? ’ I was his girlfriend, I had a right to know.
‘We don’t know yet but it’s something that you needn’t worry about.’ He said kissing the top of my head. I sat back to look at him, questioning.
‘I don’t want you to hurt them Trent. They are nice people. I think you should forgive them…don’t you think that it’s the best way to solve all of this?’ He jaw stiffened but I carried on trying to convince him. ‘I mean collage is over in like half a year.’ He removed his arm from my shoulder then pierced me with his transparent eyes; I flinched under his stare.
‘I knew it.’ He commented as I looked back up at him. ‘I knew they would get to you!’ He stated throwing his hands up.
‘No one is getting to me Trent, I just don’t want anyone to get hurt.’ I said quietly.
His soft hands come up and cupped my face. ‘I won’t get hurt. I promise. And besides, I won’t get hurt because I’m the one who is going to be doing the hurting.’ I pushed his hands away heatedly.
‘See! There you go again! Talking about hurting people! See Trent, I am not a violent person! I can’t stand the thought of anyone getting hurt…especially you. Or Keith.’ I added his name. He sighed putting his head back. I waited there in silence. We were next to each other, I turned to my side leaning on my hand, him, his legs stretched out in front with his hands behind his head, but it felt as though we were distant. As though we couldn’t tell what each other was thinking, what each other were feeling.
