Giving Trey’s arm a squeeze I told him I was just going to use the bathroom. After a few minutes of jogging down the trail I came to two lodge houses, one for the girls and other for the boys. I opened the door and it obeyed with a small creek. It was fair nice, this place wasn’t a proper camp site, the forest and surroundings were real put the parts that were inside the yellow flags were set up and manmade. The wooden roof was fairly low; the room consisted of six cubicles, three showers and three toilets which were paired up with three sinks. There was a separate sink that was for collecting drinking water, or like last year filling up water balloons and guns. I heard somebody else’s footsteps and a friendly whistle and there was only one person who whistled the same annoying tune. I wasn’t going hide, helplessly. I was better than that and most certainly stronger than that. I opened the door again, creating another creek and stepped out crushing small twigs beneath my feet.
‘Hey!’ I called out. If he was trying to stalk me then he had another thing coming. I was on this trip and I wanted to have fun with my friends. But he didn’t step out, his brother did instead.
‘What?’ Josh asked lazily, leaning one hand on the door pane. For a moment there was an awkward silence.
‘Stop following me.’ I ordered, folding my arms venting my anger. He rubbed the back of his neck.
‘I wasn’t following you, I just needed a piss. I’ve told Mr Carter that I’ve got a bladder infection,’ he laughed at himself and I joined in.
‘Josh! You can’t pull that one off again! Did he believe you?’ I asked, dropping my arms now and he let his drop, grinning at the situation.
‘Yeah! It works every year! Now I can go out of my tent at night!’ He made a fist and pulled it in, ‘Yes!’ I laughed heartily.
‘Maybe we should all get bladder infections!’ I suggested, we were both chuckling now together.
‘I’m going to go steal the toilet paper!’ He chuckled.
‘Not again, you heard what he said, but last year that was a good one.’ I said putting my thumb up to him. Josh’s facial expression suddenly changed, from happy and content to downright serious. I didn’t even have to look behind me to see who was approaching with steady footsteps.
‘I heard talking,’ Trent said, smiling at his brother. Well, it wasn’t a smile it was more like a disguise. He was hiding his anger. Without a word, I turned around and headed back towards our camp site, if I strained my ears I could hear Trent speaking to his brother, not speaking…shouting but the further I walked the more their argument dimmed.
