***A new virus has been discovered that is said to have complete control over the body. Scientists in Oklahoma tested this disease with the help of a human volunteer when changes appeared, organs began to shut down, including the heart, and they had seemed to have died but were still in motion. Authorities say that this deadly disease is under control and scientists are on a mission to find a cure. Although they say that it is conducted, it is important that all people remain cautious and if anyone is possibly infected, you go to your nearest hospital to be checked***

"This new zombie scare is a total pain in the ass, they tell you to take precautions but you've got to agree, some are taking it a little too far." My father said as he stood by the window, viewing the other flats in our neighbourhood. Most had boards up in the windows, doors leading to balconies were blocked off and if you ever saw a soul, they were only checking for possible zombies. I was sat on the couch, flicking through channels, all of them mentioning something about the virus. "You know the Ahlstroms?" He continued, turning to face me, still leaning against the wall. "I haven't seen  them for days, Emma says they haven't left their apartment since last tuesday, that's almost a week! Not even to get supplies! Imagine the feeling in there, not knowing what the outside has been like for almost a week." He remarked, shaking his head slightly and turning to look out the window again.

"Apparently, accoarding to Noah, people are stealing now, they wanna get as much food as they can incase the EU declare a state of emergency. Well that's what  one of the caught theives said to him; he was a father worried about his children. I guess I can see his reasoning but..." I trailed off, continuing to listen in to news reports that were causing panic world wide. It's astonishing how one little rumor can spread and make well-educated, interlectual people, like the Ahlstroms, shiver and shake in their expensive tailor-made suits and cut themselves off from the whole world. "Who's to say this isn't just another scheme to...I dunno, make us more careful towards health and hygene, nobody scares about stds when they have sex anymore, nobody cares about the bacteria they carry if they don't wash their hands, nobdy cares about the dangers... Maybe, they just want us to be a little extra cautious." I added.

"I don't know what's going on, but for sure you are NOT going out until this little storm blows over, I don't want to find you walking uneasily and going for my brains" He said, scruffling my hair and smiling.

"I promise you won't" I said, laughing a little. Just then my mother came walking in through the front door.

"Hey, the craze still going on?" She asked, turning to me when my dad never answered her.

"You should know, you were outside, everyone's still locked away so that should give you you're answer" I said sarcasticly. My mother was acting different lately, she always snuck out and said she was visitng a heart broken friend or going out for a meal with a long-lost high school student she used to see everyday but lost touch. Of course we knew what she was actually doing, but we couldn't hold anything against  her until we had proper proof.

"No need for attitude Azzy" I hated it when she called me that, it's not the nickname, I just didn't feel like she deserved to call me it.

"Where were you for so long?" I asked, tilting my head and frowning at her.

"..I was doing a little shopping when I bumbed into a friend, we got talking, I guess for a while" She said, huffing and smiling apologetically. I just nodded and turned back to the tv.

~

Things were so different back then, so relaxed. Maybe it's because we never believed the virus would spread let alone was even real. We thought everyone was overreacting but it turned out to be us in the wrong, treating it like it was nothing. I guess it only took a death in the family to cause our realisation.
