*Beep. Beep. Beep.*Ugh. I groaned as I lifted my head off the pillow to turn off my alarm clock.
Another Monday. At least today I have a job interview though! I slip out of bed and decide to take a quick shower, I need to try my hardest to land this job. Its been two weeks since I've paid my rent and I know for an absolute fact that if I don't pay by Friday I'll have no where to live.
Recently I moved to California to better start my career. I'm a make-up artist but not the kind that does a celebrity's make-up. I do studio make-up, mainly for Syfy movies, but right now I'm trying to branch out and try new things. Today's interview was for a male modeling agency. Apparently they put out a catalog every other week so their models can get hired. However, instead of dressing the models up in clothes, they paint on their suits. Hence where I come in. California is seriously like living in a different realm.
I parked my Coop across the street and began walking towards the building. This building was the definition of modern. All grey with metal detailing pretty much everywhere. Every seat and desk inside was basically flat or a square shape.
I walked up to the front desk to try and check in. "Hi, my name is Kate. I'm here for the job interview with Mr. McCoy." The woman must have been around 20 years old. Brunette hair pulled back tight into a sleek ponytail. "Yes of course. He'll be here shortly. Take a seat." She pointed blankly behind me. Not even bothering to make eye contact with me for one second. "Mkay Thanks."
"Ms Newman?" I stood up and turned in the direction of the voice only to be met with piercing blue eyes. "Yes! Hi, I presume you're Mr. McCoy? Pleasure to meet you!" I stuck my hand out and he shook it gratefully.
"The pleasure is all mine. Right this way Ms. Newman."
While we walked by endless corridors this gave me a moment to take in his appearance. Tall, probably around mid 50's, dark hair tinted with greys, and a light grey suit to match.
We were about halfway through the interview and things were going great. The pay would be outstanding, he seems like a very nice boss, and I would only work three days a week.
"Now Ms. Newman. I must say, our old employees who have had your job have never been quite so, well how shall I put this, the last woman who had your job was 45 and married. I can't be one hundred percent positive that some of our models won't try to hit on you."
I sat there dumbfounded. I was pretty sure he had just implied that I was pretty. Either way, a few models wouldn't bother me at all, that is, if any even notice me.
"That won't be a problem at all sir. But may I ask, did you just say my job?"
"Yes that is correct. You seem like an excellent employee, I'd like you to start tomorrow if you could. Seven a.m. sharp. You will get paid each week."
I tried but couldn't contain my smile. I have finally found a job, a decent one at that!
"Sounds fantastic, I will see you then."
I walked back across the street to my Mini Coop only to see that it had a huge dent in the back bumper. My mouth hung open. "No! You have got to be kidding me!" I mumbled my aggravation out loud to myself as I went to inspect the damage. I sighed when I saw a note and a number attached to my back wipers, "Ah, well at least I have a job now."
I opened the drivers door and put my purse on the passenger side and climbed in. Once inside I took out the note that was left on my car and actually read it.
'Very sorry for what happened to your car. I see that it was my mistake and I'll take care of it. Call whenever.
-Sebastian'I guess this can't be that bad then right? At least it's nothing I'll have to pay for...hopefully.
As soon as I got back to my apartment I took out my phone to text the number this man left. Assuming it is a man.
'I received your note. Thank you for leaving one. I will call you tomorrow and we can discuss my car. -K'
That sounds good right? I must have written and re-written it a hundred times before I pressed send. I called my landlord to let them know that I'd be paying them on Friday, I also asked if pets were allowed here, and thankfully they were. I think having a guard dog would be a good idea. It kinda sucks too coming home to an empty apartment. Not like no furniture empty, like no love, seeing as its just me.
*Bzzzzzz*
I got a message from Sebastian, sweet he actually responded. Maybe he's legit?
'Your welcome, it was my fault. Sounds good! Talk soon!'
I didn't really feel like there was a need to respond at that point so I plugged my phone into its charger and went to put on my pajamas. It has definitely been one long, but overall good, day. I flick on my bedroom tv and I must have left it on Dvd because the Avengers were playing. God I love that movie. I wonder what they're all doing right now....
I fell asleep thinking of what kind of puppy I would get next Friday, since that will be my first paycheck I can actually use. I'm almost certain my first one will all be used for rent and groceries. That's also to hoping that Sebastian comes through. Sebastian. What a cool name. Italian I think? Eh maybe European. Who even knows. All I know is that things are starting to look up for me. Here's to them staying that way. After all, Optimism is everything!
Hola! So here's the first chapter! I've decided to post the first five all at once, so you are welcome!
