I flipped open the page of my magazine, trying to hide this week’s cover. Me in a skin tight almost see-through dress that barely covered my crotch, but I didn’t flip fast enough. Gavin grabbed it from me and pointed at the cover, a smirk appearing on his face.
“Looking good Miranda!” he whistled.
I gave him a deathly glare.
“Now—now no need to be shy.” He continued.
God, why was he always like this, I model on the side, so I can pay his parents rent, easy as that, I do not enjoy showing off every corner of my body to the world. His smirk stayed on his face as I reached over to grab the magazine, and of course he stood up, his hand over his head, out of my reach. I’m 5’10 yet he’s still taller than me. So I changed my tactic. I sprinted towards his closet, and grabbed the stack of playboys he hides there, his dirty little secret---from everyone but me of course.
Now the smirk was on my face. He tossed my magazine at my feet then put his hands up in surrender. Too bad I changed my mind.
“You got your magazine back, give me mine.” He sounded really concern.
I kicked the cover of me at him.
“Don’t want it.”
A spark of annoyance found its way into his eyes.
“What do you want then?”
“I’ve been on a crazy diet for months for today’s photo-shoot. You’re going to take me to McDonalds, or you secret is being flushed.”
Gavin took a step towards me, I took a step in the direction of our joint bathroom, yes we share a bathroom; thankfully I convinced his parents to put a lock in. Before it locked he used to walk in when I was having a shower. Him seeing me wasn’t the biggest deal in the world, when we were really little we had baths together, I’m a model, I’ve been on covers in just my underwear and bra, it was just the fact that I like privacy, something he has no respect for.
My best friend shrugged in defeat. I jumped in glee; then continued into the frenzy of dance moves I always did when I got my way—my happy dance.
“Miranda there’s a reason you quit ballet.” He laughs.
“Hey.” I whacked his stomach; then flew to his jet black 2010 forte, McDonalds is the best junk food in town and I missed it. It didn’t take long for Gavin to catch up to me; I was the pretty one but not the athletic one.
Once at McDonalds I ordered a big mac with extra-large fries and a coke. Gavin just laughed at me, he thinks I eat like a beast—correction a man-beast!
“Where you going,” I mumbled threw my mouthful, dropping food onto my awaiting lap. The car was cruising through the streets like a ninja, heading towards the state highway.
