Aphrodite walked into school, carrying her books and folders, expecting another normal day. However, she had no idea how wrong she was. She carefully maneuvered her large body throughout the bustling, hormonal teenagers, and made her way to her next lesson: maths. Aphrodite struggled in maths, it was one of her worst subjects. She just couldn't seem to rationalise with the numbers, or understand the difficult equations that lay on the paper in front of her. This was why she had no idea how she had managed to get in the top set; she was sure that she had done terribly on the actual test than she had done throughout the year. This was why she thought that maths was one of the worst classes this term. Aphrodite knew that she was going to struggle, and she was way too shy to ask the teacher for help. So, she would probably just doodle on her hand, or in the back of the book as usual. However, while she was walking, some delightful person decided to push her into the wall. Her arms suddenly went weak, and all the books fell on the floor.
"Fuck. Just what I needed." She growled under her breath, before reaching down to pick everything up. She let out a long sigh, and looked up. "Oh, no one fucking help me then." She once again muttered. Aphrodite was being sarcastic, she knew no one would help her. That was why she was incredibly suprised when a stranger bent down, quickly scooping up the books from the floor. Looking up, she accidently bumped heads with the other person. Aphrodite stood up, and groaned while rubbing her sore head. The other person got up aswell, and handed her her books. "Thanks." She managed to murmur. She lifted her head to see who the good samaritan was. Aphrodite immeadiately went red, and tucked a loose peice of hair behind her left ear. The stranger was a boy, who must have been the same age as Aphrodite herself, maybe even older; she couldn't tell. He had long black hair, which stopped just above his shoulders. A side fringe swooped across his deep black eyes, and he had perfect lips. He was at least half a foot taller than Aphrodite, and definatley skinnier. She was lost in a trance, wondering why someone like him would help someone like her. The boy's voice returned her from her thoughts.
"Hi. My name is Luke." He said, smiling kindly. He held out his hand, and Aphrodite reluctantly reached out to shake it. She smiled back at him, still firmly grasping on to his hand. He was staring deep into her eyes, almost into her soul. She felt weak at the knees. It was only the school bell ringing which awoke them both from this trance. She quickly let go of Luke's hand, and let her own hand fall limpy by her side.
"I'm Aphrodite." She grinned. Luke nodded, with slight respect.
"That's an awesome name." He smiled back. "Isn't it the name of the greek goddess of love?" She nodded, and giggled slightly. Everyone teased her for having the goddess of love's name, because she had never had a boyfriend; Luke was the first person to actually compliment her on it. They stood there in awkward silence for a few minutes, before Aphrodite realised the time.
"Oh shit, I'm going to be late!" She said, panicking. She hated getting into trouble, she couldn't stand getting shouted at in front of everyone; Aphrodite was a very sensitive girl. Luke looked around, and scratched his head.
"Well, I'm new here. You don't think that before you go you could show me where the maths block is?" He said, smiling hopefully. It looked like he had asked a few other people for directions, but everyone at this school was incredibly rude, so they probably wouldn't have helped him anyway.
"Yeah, of course!" Aphrodite smiled. "I've gotta go there now anyway, so you can walk with me."
"Cool." Luke replied, obviously happy. The two walked through the corridors, and Aphrodite pointed to everything, explaining their origin, and all about the school history. Luke kept nodding his head in interest, and smiled all the time.
"That, right there, that's Miss Robinson's class. Oh god, if you go in there, good luck to you." Aphrodite teased, gently pushing Luke's arm. He laughed, and playfully winked.
