Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming, cannot cease for the fear of silent nights...
I had open my eyes to complete darkness. The wind cooled my burning skin. I brought my aching body into a sitting position, pain shooting into my left foot, and I gasped. Why was I on the ground? And why was I in so much pain? I took in my surroundings. I was in the... forest? My mind seemed fuzzy, it's was almost impossible to think straight. I noticed a crumpled and ripped piece of paper to my right. I struggle to bend over and pick it up when I realize the large gash across my stomach, starting at my rib-cage and ending at the other side of my hip. I touch it slightly, the blood had dried, but not entirely.
I was shaking by then. I needed to get up, and find a way out of here, as soon as possible. I tried to stand up off the hard, dirt ground, balancing most of my weight on my good foot. I stumbled, but managed to stand. Taking in my surroundings, I looked around to try and find a path, or maybe a sign. There wasn't anything in sight, except for the large pine trees, and the endless horizon. The emptiness of the forest seemed to settle around me, but I still didn't feel entirely alone. I could feel a sensation in the back of my mind, a faint memory that was soon absorbed in the darkness.
I don't remember anything, how I got here, or where all these wounds came from, and it frightened me. I returned my gaze to the note on the ground. There might be directions on it, or it might explain why I'm here. I bend over to pick it up straining my bad leg. The note reads-
"Find the eight pages"
I was confused. What eight pages? The scrawled lettering on the paper had bleed through with ink onto my fingers
What do I do now?
I dropped the tattered scrap of paper and tried to take a step forward with my right foot dragging my left foot behind me, which was probably broken. Pain wracked my body, I clenched my teeth and steadied my leg with my hands but continued to limp through the dark, bleak forest.
...Hours have passed by and I was growing weary, dizzy. I needed to rest, but for some reason, I feared stopping. I had no luck in finding anything. No "pages" whatever they were, and no help. The grounds of the forest continued on for miles, I can't seem to focus anymore. Winds were picking up and I started to shiver violently. No help...
But there are voices ...echoing in my mind, the beat of drums. I thought I was going mad. What was that feeling? That sensation spreading across my veins, in my blood. Stars are dancing across my vision, like static, and pressure is starting to weigh down on me. I had stopped walking, my limbs began to slow me down, turning to the weight of lead. My broken foot felt like it had caught on fire. I finally gave up and just stood there, watching the static, listening to the ringing, the drums.
I see a figure in the distance, moving closer towards me. The figure of a man, but not a man, a monster. I just stand there. The creature is only feet from me now. Large, black arm-like tentacles grow from its back, spreading across the landscape and enclosing on me. The head of the figure... it has no face. Just hollow indents of where facial features should be, and the skin of a ghost, white, but in a way it seems beautiful. I remember the creature, from somewhere lost deep in my thoughts. The static spreads wider around my eyes and I slump to my knees, all I feel is pain, burning through my very core. I look up to the monster's face, which is only inches from mine. Suddenly, a scar appears, and the pale skin around it begin to tear and stretch open into what seems like a mouth. Still connected by small shreds of skin, the mouth of the creature opens larger, and a black liquid pours from it.
I don't try to run. The static and ringing in my head take over. I feel my lungs begin to tighten and I gasp for breath.
"Stop" my voice just a whisper.
"Stop!" I yell louder,
"Please!"I see the tall, thin figure again. When I realize the static and the ringing had slowly ceased, I hear myself gasping for breath. The creature, still inches from me, seems tense, and almost surprised. The shreds of skin piece together, leaving an empty, pale face. Even with the lack of a face, I still feel its gaze upon me. I am still on my knees, shuddering, when I finally get the courage to stare back at it. "Please," I say again.
There was a somewhat strange moment of silence and my gasping before it stood up. I carefully stood up too, I tried not to show my pain. It lowered its head down to mine, slowly trying to intimidate me, but I held my ground.
"What are you?" It spoke, the voice was deep and seemed to echo across the forest, but also inside my mind. I was paralyzed. How could it speak without a mouth? Or look without eyes? It is as if he was communicating through my thoughts.
"Uh...I-I'm...a" I stuttered, not being able to process a single thought.
"No, I know you're a human, but the real question is, who are you?" He tilts his head slightly.
"I..." I have no words. Who was I? Why was I here? I don't remember any of my life. I don't remember any family, or friends...
"Hmm..." he tilts his head the other way, "Amnesia, it'll wear off" he spoke calmly as if this was a normal conversation. I kept my eyes on him, not blinking. He wants information, not to kill me, not yet. This cant be happening, this isn't real!
"I know you're injured," he spoke again "you don't have to act strong, as if it'll save you." I continued to stand up straight, still breathing hard, but I didn't even reach his waist. He was still bending over so he was level with me, the claw-like arms that had extended from his back were no longer there, and I noticed he was incredibly thin.
"Why... why have you not killed me? I know you were trying to kill me, I could feel myself dying. Why did you hesitate?" I questioned, my voice still raspy from my lungs almost giving out. My thoughts were starting to clear, slowly.
"I didn't hesitate to kill you," he spoke softer "I never hesitate." his breath on my neck sent shivers down my spine, but I didn't move.
"You have a resistance against my power, for some reason, when you wanted death to stop... it stopped. I can still kill you, but not the way I normally do it." He spoke again, clearly, like this was normal.
"Then why don't you? just kill me now?" I almost felt irritated, what did he need from me? Why did I have resistance against him, or his power?
"Well, I could, but no, you are much too... valuable" he leaned in closer, so close I almost stumbled backward
"Then what? are you going to let me go?" I still didn't understand what he was planing to do with me, but I doubted that he would let me go.
"Oh, no I could never do that either. It still seems strange to me that you didn't call for help, you didn't even try to run... all natural instincts for a human mind." He started to walk around me, observing. His long, slender legs pacing, trying to understand me. I don't even understand myself.
"Then what are you going to do with
me?" A long silence lingered and I shuddered with every breath I took."...You... will have to join me"
