Talia Grey has always dreamed of escaping her small, hometown of Abbottstown, Pennsylvania and breaking free from her drunken father's rages and gambling debts. October 23, which starts out as any normal day of Talia's life, ends up being the day that changes her life forever. When Talia is pulled out of school, she learns that her father has given up custody of Talia to Robert Monroe in order to pay his 2 million dollar gambling debt. All of her belongings are packed and inside the trunk of a 2013 XC90 Volvo with two men dressed in Armani suits on either side of her, taking her to her new guardian and life in Chicago, Illinois.
