Chapter 2: Draft day

Jonathan's POV

I walk into the General Motors Place in Vancouver. The building is very dark and empty. Soon, I will be drafted to a team. I will get the chance to play in the NHL, the thing I've been striving to do all my life. I walk to go get my suit on, and I see a nice young lady. She has nice long hair and she is taking pictures of me.
"Hi" I say
"Hello! Who are you?" she asks
"My name is Jonathan Toews. Today, I will be drafted to an NHL team. What is your name?" I ask
"Oh. Well, my name is Amy." She quietly
"Cool. See you around." I say
She starts to blush and I start to walk down the hall. I get into the locker room and change into my fancy suit. I open the door and walk to the stands and sit there and think. My future is being decided today. The Stanley cup is in my future. I can do it. I wait, and the draft is now starting. I know I'll hear my name quite soon. I daze out and dream about lifting the cup. what will I say? How will I lift it?  I listen and I look at the man who is saying their pick. I finally have a feeling I will be drafted 3rd overall.
"The Chicago Blackhawks are proud to select, from the University of North Dakota, Jonathan Toews."
I stand up. I can't believe it. All the late nights, the blood, the tears, the stress, and I finally made it to the NHL. I first hug my mom, then my dad, then my grandpa, then my grandma. I walk to my right to get to the stairs and I walk down to the stage. As I walk, everyone cheers for me. I present myself with the largest smile I've ever grinned. I walk up the stairs to see a bunch of happy people up on the stage. I shake everyone's hand, and then I receive my jersey. The Indian head is so full of detail, it's amazing. I can't wait to represent Chicago as a city. I put on my jersey and then put on the hat I receive. I smile at the camera. I see my parents and grandparents in the crowd. The tears of joy in their eyes. I get a little teary-eyed. I walk off the stage for interviews, and I still can believe how amazing this day has been. All the hard work paid off, even if I ever thought it wouldn't.
