I enter the room with Maya and everyone turns to us. My dad looks really concerned and Lucas looks guilty but I don't look much like I had been crying anymore. I sit down and my dad goes back to teaching the lesson until class is over.
"Class dismissed."
"Riley." I hear Lucas say.
"Save it." I say back, walking out, Maya running up behind me.
"Should I just forget it and not be mad?"
"Not yet." She says.
"Huh?"
"First he learns his lesson and then he never does it again. Trust me. He needs you even as a friend."
"Keep an eye on him. I don't want him getting expelled."
"Riley, I don't mean ignoring him, I mean just being a bit upset with him because you deserve to be."
We walk to our next class which is math. Luckily, out math teacher doesn't teach us about our lives although it would be great just this one time. Another class passes and then it is lunch. I arrive at our table and sit net to Maya with my tray.
"Riley!" Says Lucas. "I never thought of you as a second choice. I was confused, I thought I loved you both the same, until it was too late and we were dating and you had a boyfriend too. I love you the same just in different ways and I didn't know that."
I look at Maya. She seems a little surprised and confused. Too confused to tell me what to do so I'm kinda on my own. I'm thinking of what to say when Farkle plops down across from me. He chose the same meal as me. I know it means nothing but I do feel a little pang of excitement in my stomach like a little bomb exploding, especially when he moved his sparkling eyes to mine. I can feel my eyes light up and gain wisdom but yet turn stupid and overly dreamy at the same time and wish I didn't do that but I cant help it so try to act normal while feeling like in in a plastic bubble under water in crystal water pool and all the sounds are slightly muffled because racing mind takes up almost all of the sound besides my ringing ears that whirls around me in a happy, nervous sorta way that makes me feel heavy and for a moment as if the bubble I am in was stuck in the middle of the desert.
I feel someone nudge my side and I turn to see Mayas looking at me excitedly with her eyes wide open and I can see the slight changes in them as she figures out what going on.
"You-" I grab her arm and stand her up with me.
"Let's take a walk. We'll be back."
"Okay?" Says Lucas. Farkle looks a little disappointed and my heart catches on fire for just a second before I turn and walk into the hallway.
"What do you know?"
"That you love
him."
"I d-"
"You do!" She goes up onto her tippy toes excitedly. "I knew it."
"Slow down, I'm not telling him."
"Come on, Riley. Somethings finally making sense!"
"I said no."
"But what if he likes you?" I look back into the cafeteria.
"I never thought of that. But he if he thought it was best to tell the truth about how I felt than
"He wanted you to be happy."
"Well, I'm not. Not without him." I turn back to her, realizing how much I just revealed to her.
"That is adorable!"
"Just stay quiet. At least for now."
"Fine, just don't expect it to be forever."
