The sun was slowly disappearing; an orange tint lit the sky. Four people, all carrying heavy bags walked though an empty field.

“This is going to be awesome!” shouted a medium built boy with blonde hair that stuck up at odd angles, as he ran his hands through it again.

“Callum, stop being so loud, you’ll draw attention to us. Remember nobody knows what we are doing.” The other boy stated, with his dark and moody appearance, Callum went quiet.

“What if we get caught? My parent will send me to boarding school!” the smallest girl cried, her big blue eyes were filled with fear.

“We won’t.” Said the moody, dark haired boy.

“But what if w-”

“We won’t unless you’ve told someone!” he raised his voice.

The older girl spoke up, her pink hair reflecting of the sun “Leon, babe, stop being a grumpy old man, she’s only scared,” She turned to the girl “Jessica, we won’t get caught, and if we do just tell your parents it was our fault, you’re only fifteen. We're older, and we'll get the blame.” Jessica's small body was shaking slightly, and she nodded

“Okay Stacy.”

They continued walking, talking quietly until a house came into view.

The house showed signs of age: the wood was slowly rotting, windows covered with inches of dust. It was the kind of place that bugs and vermin loved. The air felt cold. Goosebumps erupted on all four pairs of arms, shivers were sent down spines and all noises died down in their throat. They froze to a stop. A faint tinkering noise was coming from inside the house, like someone was moving cups. A shadow passed the window and then suddenly there was a bang and the curtains were drawn. The children ran.

They kept running until a barn came into view, they sprinted inside and closed the door.

“I think…I think we’re safe here…” Jessica panted. Her back was pressed against the barn door. “So far, I don’t like camping much.”

“I wonder who was in there? That house has been deserted ever since that old man, Albert , lived there.” Callum pondered.

“Maybe it was a ghost!” Shouted Stacy, getting over excited.

“I doubt that, Stacy. It was most likely a homeless person who decided to live there, trust me. There is no such things as ghosts.” Leon stated, his voice was filled with confidence and he stood tall.

“Wait, what old man? Whose house is that?” Jessica asked with a confused expression evident on her face. She looked up at the taller three, all very different. There was Leon all dressed in black (to match his mood), then there was Stacy who wears the brightest colours and had the brightest personality, and finally, Callum who will wear anything and doesn’t care what people think.

Jessica thought how different she was from the rest of them, she was shy and didn’t like to try knew things, she also coincided herself a bit of a coward, scared at the unusual.

“Come on, we will camp here. I like this place, it's warm.” Stacey suggested. The rest agreed, they got some matches out, lit some lamps and hung them from the side of the barn. They each put up their tents and placed the brightest lamp in front of them.

“Come on, tell me the story please.”

“Okay, a couple of years ago there was a man, Albert, who nobody really talked to him. People said he was a bit crazy in the head, so everyone left him alone. He lived in that house with his wife Mary and their two children Isabel and Fredrick. But something happened, nobody knows what, and the wife and children died.” Callum started the story.

“Some people thought they had died of illness, but most thought he had killed them even though it could never be proved. Apparently they were sick of him acting up, so Mary had planned to leave him and take the children with her.” Leon continued.

“Here is the weird part though, a few months after the funerals, all three of the bodies went missing, dug right up but only those three. Everybody searched but nobody could find out who did it or where the bodies were hid, while searching for them, a new one was found. A body of an old man. People thought it was Albert and that he had committed suicide after the bodies had disappeared but the name of the man was never released.” Stacey joined in.

“So the house has been empty ever since?” Jessica asked. All three of them nodded, after a while of silence, they continued chatting and went to sleep. Only to be woken up again.

“I want to check out the house.” Callum stated waking everyone up.

“What? Are you crazy? I am not going in there!” Jessica almost screamed.

“Ooh yes, lets, it can be an adventure!” Stacey said, standing up and placing a jacket over her pyjamas.

“No. It could be dangerous.” Jessica said, her voice pleading. Everyone turned to Leon.

“Fine let’s go.” He decided.

Jessica reluctantly got up and followed them outside into the dark night.

When they reached the house, they slowed down their walk and tiptoed to the front window. It was covered in dust and impossible to see in the house, so were all the rest. Giving up they crept to the door and turned the handle, the door creaked open.

They stepped inside, leaving the door slightly open.

“Some one needs a house keeper.” Callum joked, keep his voice low, but what he saw scared him. Cobwebs covered every corner, old rotting food was still placed on the table and a dark, dry substance, that looked a lot like blood, covered the floor.

“I don’t like it, let’s go.” Jessica whispered slowly creeping to the door.

“I agree with Jess, come on guys.” Stacey whispered.

“Come on we might as well look around” Leon whispered walking to the stairs, the rest followed. Every step creaked and groaned, the walls were covered in old pictures of a family. When they reached the top of the stairs, they walked into the main bedroom.

Stacey and Jessica both screamed at what they saw. The skeletons of three people were posed to look directly at the door. On was sitting on the end of the bed, one was on the chair next to the bed and the other was sitting on the window ledge.

“Meet my family.” A voice rasped, the man who was in those pictures shuffled into the room, his back was hunched and his mouth, which formed an evil grin, was filled with disgusting and rotten teeth, he advanced the shocked teenagers, a blade in his hands. “Come and join my family.”

They all took a step back and ran out of the room; each one of them ran in a different direction to hide.

Jessica ran into the room opposite, which once belonged to the children. She hid in a large closet and closed the door. Floorboards creaked as the man slowly, snuck into the room.

“Come on out my dear, I won’t hurt you. I promise.” He whispered, his voice getting closer, and closer. Suddenly, the closet door opened. A scream filled the house.

One by one a scream or a cry of help would fill the house, each new body joined the others in the main bedroom, the floors covered in blood stains, were slippery under foot. Then finally the screaming stopped. Old man Albert walked slowly down the stairs, until he reached the front room...

Then the door slammed shut never to be open again…
