It wasn't supposed to happen this way, thought Murray Shaw. He was on the roof top of the mall slowly bleeding out, clutching his arm where the wound was, re-thinking about the last few moments of his life.
Blood.
So much blood.
Its been seven months since the infection spread, turning everyone over the age of sixteen into a monsters who feeds off human flesh. Kids flesh. Murray and his group of scavs were only going to the Regal Cinemas Southpark Mall to grab some supplies, and leave. Him, and the second in charge of the hunt, Daisy, were leading the team in the mall when the grownups attacked.
The group passed dead bodies of grownups.
"Guys, somethings wrong." said Ruth.
Ruth was the type of guy who when he spoke, everyone listened.
"What do you mean?" Murray said, looking around cautiously.
The whole group started to ready their weapon. They got in a tight formation, and moved in a pack like wild dogs. That's what they are now and days. A bunch of wild, crazy, killing dogs trying to survive. Murray looked at Daisy, and nodded. She nodded back at Murray singling that something was wrong. The oldest of the group, Zachary wasn't scared of anything. He was the Achilles of the group. He had no weakness, but he did have a heel. He always got to cocky for his own good. The other day, he ran into a pile of ten grown ups, killing half of them before Ruth had to help him with his sling shot. Its carried metal BB's that were dangerously lethal.
" I aint scared of whatever it is," Zachary said puffing his chest out, " I aint scared of nothin!'"
"Shut up before you attract someone." said a red headed girl named Rachael.
"Or something." Daisy muttered.
The group walked around the mall in the tight packed group, looking for anything that could help the rest of the kids back at the school. A kid dressed in all black named Dylan took a arrow out of his quiver, and readied it in his bow. The five of the kids slowly walked up a escalator in the mall, breaking apart their formation.
" Guys, this really isn't a good idea," Ruth announced , " we should really leave now."
Murray should have listened to him. He should have done what Ruth said.
But he ignored him.
"We need the food, the little ones back at camp are dying." said Murray.
"Yeah, lets stay, and fight whatever ol' Ruthy here is scared of." Zachary said bravely twirling his spear.
The party got off the escalator and got in formation.
"What's wrong with being a little scared here there," Ruth said, "it's good for you now and days."
Zachary snickered in return and pushed Ruth to the ground. He walked away laughing and went to go and flirt with Rachael who pushed him away.
Dylan helped Ruth up, and patted the dust off Ruth.
"Ignore the idiot, one day his stupidity will be the end of him." Dylan said darkly.
"Yeah, whatever. Thanks though."
Dylan nodded and walked back to his place in line.
The group continued walking together when they heard a rambling noise. Like something getting pushed or shoved over.
"What was that?" Daisy questioned.
"The hell if I know."
"Shut up Zachary, listen." Rachael said quietly.
