I didn't get it. I didn't understand why Jamie didn't call me soon. It's been one hour since I came at seven. No phone call.

After five minutes watching news, I flipped the channel off and and rolled to the side on my bed to turn the lamp off. I still kept my eyes open. I didn't know whether Jamie was okay since she didn't call me, or the fact that I felt like my stomach was about to explode from all that food.

Soon enough, the house phone rang. I turned around at the other nightstand and gazed at the caller ID. Jamie.

I knew Jamie expected me to be in bed already. I did a long dramatic yawn to have a full, tired effect. "Hello?"

"Hey, baby." Her voice sounded low and groggy, but had a cheerful tone to it after hearing my voice. "I'm sorry I didn't call earlier today. Our teacher and the supervisor wanted to look around the city. I was so exhausted from the plane ride, I wanted to fall on the floor and just sleep from all that walking."

"Did you get anything to eat?"

"Of course I did. You wouldn't believe how good the food was. I don't remember what I ate because it was so good."

"Well, you are a heavy eater and yet you manage to be so slim."

"That's my metabolism for you." She yawned briefly. "Did you miss me? What did you do since I left?"

"First, yes I did miss you already and I still do. Then me, Riley, and Nick went to the movies for a bit before Nick and I went to his house."

"What did you guys do?"

"We ate dinner."

"Was it good?"

"Yeah." I said. "His mother was very friendly. The father was...I don't know. He didn't seem to fond of me."

"Because of me. I'm not his biggest fan but I love Nick's mother. She would make us a batch of fig cookies whenever I came over. She'd even let me take the rest home."

"That's really sweet of her." I smiled.

"Yeah." Jamie sighed. "How does it feel over there without me?"

"Quiet." I looked around and observed the dullness without her presence. "Very quiet and boring. I wish I was with you, though."

"I know, baby."

"So do are bunking with anyone in your hotel room?"

"Yeah, with two other girls. I called the bed next to the window. The other two were fighting for the other beds. Apparently they're sisters and tend to butt heads."

"Hopefully they won't bother you."

"Yeah, me too." Jamie yawned again. "I'm going to let you go. We're going to wake up early around seven or eight."

"For what?"

"I don't know. Some wax museum." Her voice grew more tired. "I'm too lazy to figure it out right now."

"Have fun."

"Yeah, I will. Now get some sleep." She demanded. "I'll call you whenever I can, okay baby?"

"Okay." I said. "Goodnight, Jamie. I love you."

Jamie made some kissing noises on the line. "I love you too Rachie, goodnight."

Usually at a boring and sometimes gloomy day at school, Jamie always made me laugh with insults to the bottom feeders we call Freshmen and the incompetent, popular freeloaders we call classmates. Jamie always made my day happy, even when we had some downfalls. But that Monday day was pretty long. I knew she was having a good time and was safe, but I still missed her. I wasn't use to her being gone for that long, even though it was only one day so far.
