I looked around the crouded ampatheater of the High School which I would be going too for the next four god forsaken years. It seemed bigger then than it ever would again while going there. I looked around scanning through unfamiliar faces trying too spot my best friend, and periodically looked at my phone hopeing I just hadnt heard it ring and she was actually on her way. It was Orientation day for Freshman. I didn't know a soul there and my best friend, and seemingly only friend I had at this point was nowhere too be found as with many situations where I needed her most just as this one, and this was only typical of her too be honest so i am not sure what I expected. Her name is Chelsea, but you will hear more about her later. I looked at my phone, and as I looked up I saw a girl walking towards me with bold dark makeup that didnt match her bubbly, sweet, and charming personality. "Hi, Im Andrea!" she said excitedly, "You must not know anyone, huh?" I shook my head, but then quickly followed that with saying "Well actually, my bestfriend should be here but she obviously isnt, as you can tell" she smiled a sort of sympathetic smile and said "Well you can just hang with me and my friends while you wait.", "ok." I said, and we made are way too where her friends where. "Im sorry! I didnt get your name." she said "oh yeah." I replied "Its Kali" "Oh well, nice too meet you!" she said excitedly. "Hey guys, this is Kali!" A girl with small brown eyes and light brown hair looked up at me, "oh, hi." she said "My name is Taylor." The next girl looked very familiar but I couldnt quite place her "oh hey! I know you!" she said "You used to play basketball with my sister Maeve didnt you?", I knew she looked familiar "Oh yeah! I did! Allie, isnt it?" I replied,"Thats right" she said with a grin,"I remember you being really good at basketb---" she was interupted by Taylor who hadnt taken much interest in my apperance since I got there, "What middle school did you go too Kali?" she inquired,"New Ridge, why?", "Oh. Never heard of it." she said shortly and went back too staring at the ground, "Well we all went too North Valley View, didnt we." said Andrea, seemingly trying too break unnessisary tention created by Taylor. It was only then that I noticed the quiet girl on the other side of Allie, who hadnt uttered a word, but as I soon learned was just very shy. Her dark blue eyes were calm, and she just remained there, like a ghost for the remander of the time I was with them. I was glad too know that they werent from the preppy school that was in town where I knew too many perfectly horrid people, with the exception of a few nice people. This was not the same Middle School I went too, however it wasnt much better for me there either. We had all gotten our schedules and paper work by this time, and my mom finally came too get me. "Well, how was it?" she said in a hopeful tone, "Did Chelsea ever come?", "No, and I am excited for the classes, but worried about making friends.", "Oh Kali!" she began "You have Chelsea! Dont you? Theres nothing too worry about", I remeber having a sinking feeling after she said this. Chelsea had said "Hey, promise me you wont ditch me, ok? we gotta stick together In High School." but I knew in my heart , that out of the two of us she would be the one too drift away .
We got home and were greeted by Maggies usual bark, our family dog though she only really loved my mom. My brother Lane aproached me with a look of sympathy, "Well," he said "Arnt you going too tell me how terrible it was?", a faint smile came across my face and I rolled my eyes, "It wasnt too bad," I began, but of course was disrupted by Lanes usual smart ass remarks "And you expect me too believe that?" he said, "Oh just let her talk!" chimed in mom who was of course half listening. "Making friends I am worried about, not too much with classes, I mean I can only expect it too be very different and I am ok with that. I talked a little too a few girls a little but not much, it would have been better if my shit best friend Chelsea would show up when she says she will" and before I knew it "KALI" Mom shrieked, and that was all I needed too know that she was actully paying attention and I shouldnt curse, "oh,Sorry mom." I started, but the look she gave me said it all that there was not one thing I could do in that moment too redeem myself, "Well, just dont be awkward, or mean and you should be fine." Lane said as if he had forgotten how tough social situations were for me, "You know," he began again "You being my sister is a big deal, don't go ruining my reputation." I wanted too punch the little gin righ off his face but remebered he only wanted me too react that way. Later the neighbor Jenna came over too borrow some sugar and of course she got too talking about High School and wouln't stop the usual way Jenna. She was maybe three years older than me and always found something too talk on and on about, but all that was on my mind was the fact that in just a matter of two days, I would enter a new phase of my seemingly slow life. And so I awaited what seemed like social certain death, the first day of High School.
