I am freezing. The cold is barley tolerable. I am locked up in this deep dark dungeon waiting. Just waiting . Listening to the sound of the water dripping from an unknown source. I am terrified. Could this be my sad fate? Who was so mean to make me wait for my own death? I know I'm going to die there is no possible way out of this mess. I had discovered what is not meant to be known...amongst humans that is. I can here two people discussing something (me) under their breaths. As you can see I can't make out a single word there saying. They have came to some sort of an agreement (my death agreement) and I can hear the sound of their quick footsteps coming closer. I put my head on my knees burying it away so hopefully I can disappear of the face of the earth. Unfortunately miracles like that don't happen in reality. I can hear the creaking of the gate opening but I can only make out a silhouette in the darkness. Miraculously all the candles are suddenly lit. The person stepped forward and said coldly, "know what are we supposed to do with you. I cannot believe my eyes. It cannot be who I think it is...
Flash Back 3 weeks back
"I SAID RELEASE YOUR SELF", screamed the prefects singing our war cry. They were immediately followed by the rest of the school repeating after them with same amount of enthusiasm. Today was the day the Knights were starting the biggest football torment in our school. It was really exciting but sport wasn't exactly my forte. I watched as the deputy head walked towards our head his pale hair shining like silver in the sun. He whispered something in his ear and walked away. The deputy's name was Griffin Bartholomue I didn't quite know what to make out of him. He was queer, quite handsome but queer all the same. I won't deny it I had been watching him a little lately. Well he started looking at me first like he knew something I didn't know. He was rather suspicious though I really didn't know what to think of him. As if he knew what I was thinking he turned and looked up at me from the field. I quickly looked away at the sky pretending to be lost in thought. His stare sent creepy chills down my spine. When I felt his gaze drift away I looked back down at him. He was talking to our Head Leonard Radulfus. Griffin was explaining something to him and he then nodded in agreement. I was trying to figure out what they were saying but I wasn't really good at lip reading. I gave up trying and I looked at my watch to see the time it was getting late so I decided to go back inside.
My best friend Cassandra came rushing in my room. She was trying to tell me something but was trying to catch her breath at the same time. "Audrey, Griffin Bartholomue is calling for you he said it is an emergency! exclaimed Cassandra catching her breath. What had I done? "Did I do something wrong?" I asked slowly. "He didn't say much he just said that you should come as soon as possible and that you shouldn't worry, she said back smiling. NOW GO!" So I went taking small steps at a time I was a little nervous. It wasn't often that you were called by the second most important student for a sudden emergency. I stopped in front of the big brown door of his study. I sighed it was now or never. I knocked on the door. "Come in ", came the placid voice. I took a step in and looked around nervously. The study wasn't fancy but it was very prim and elegant you could say. It was also warm and rather welcoming the fire place probably had something to do with it. Take a seat he said his eyes transfixed on the fire as he sat comfortably on the arm chair. I sat down on the chair next to him and copied him by staring into the fire it seemed like the ideal thing to do. "There has been an accident with the choosing of the squire", he said turning to look at me. I didn't understand what that had gotten to do with me. You see the choosing of the squire meant any boy from year eight to ten could be chosen as the helper for the head boy. It was known as the choosing of the squire because the school's name was the Kings College and our sporting teams were The Knights. All the boy's names were taken and the name that was picked out was chosen and it was forbidden to re-choose. This was a really big tradition in my school and it had been going on for decades. So you see I didn't understand because I was a girl. Your name was accidently put in the draw and coincidently you were chosen he said reading my confusion. I see so I'm going to be Leonard's squire? I asked softly. Yes the head boy does not want to choose again as the others before him haven't, he replied back. Griffin stood up so did I. "No sit" he said, "the head boy is coming to meet you. I shall take my leave". As he was walking out he said, "I haven't been spying on you I was just checking to see your type of character, to see if you were fit enough to be squire". How did he know what I was thinking? I shivered. He paused then said, "You will do well" then walked out. I registered what he had just. He said I would do well he complemented me. Someone cleared their throat and burst my bubble of thought. I turned around thinking that it was Leonard but to my surprise it was a lean boy with short auburn hair I recognized him as one of many prefects. He smiled, 'you are Audrey I presume well Leo will not be meeting you today something, he paused something important has aroused which needs his immediate attention. However he has asked if you could meet him after dinner in his room". I nodded. "Good", he said pleased with my reply. "I have to go now, must I walk you to your dorm". "No its fine" I replied slightly shaken by his request, but thank you all the same. I walked to the door with him. As he turned he smiled and walked the opposite direction. I smiled back he seemed quite nice and polite compared to some of the other prefect who abused their titles. I then walked back to my dorm to finish my work in time for my precious meeting with the head boy of kings Castle College.
