Chapter One

*Elena's POV*

Bored. Yup! That’s how I felt flipping through TV channels trying to find anything that would draw my attention. I couldn’t find anything interesting until I flipped to channel 7.

‘Breaking news: There was an accident this afternoon. It was a really a strong one that caused a huge damage. Nothing is sure yet, but there were some sources saying that two people died due to this accident. We still don’t know whether Anne..’

While she was talking, they showed pictures of the two cars that had an accident. One of the cars looked exactly like my parents cars, but I couldn’t be sure due to the damage that happened to the car. But could it be my parent’s car? Have my parents had an accident? I couldn’t concentrate with what the journalist was saying since my mind was trying to figure out whether this is really my parent’s car. It couldn’t be, could it? It would mean that my parent’s had an accident and any of them could be dead.

Not having any time to process anything, I heard the doorbell. I directly went and opened the door to appear from behind it  a police man. Why was there a police man on my door?

"Ms. Gilbert?" The policeman asked.

"Y-yeah..?" I said trying to held back tears. A police man standing on my doorstep wasn’t really a good news. It only meant that something bad had happened.

“I have some bad news,” he said with sympathy and I just looked at him gesturing for him to continue.  "Your parents had an accident this afternoon,” he informed me and my mind drifted back to the accident I just heard about on the television, so my parents did have an accident. They mentioned that there were two people dead. It could be any of my parents who died!

“What happened? Are they alright?” I rushed.

“Well, I’m sorry to tell you that, but no they’re not alright,” he said.

“Is their condition dangerous? Are they  in the intensive care? Should we go to the hospital now? I’m all ready if we needed to go right away,” I told him as I took the coat hung beside the door putting it on.

“Ma’am I’m really sorry, but you won’t find them in the hospital,” he said,

“What do you mean?” I asked confused.

Your  parents didn’t survive,” he looked at me with pity in his eyes once he saw my eyes getting watery.

“Y-you mean m-my p-parent’s d-d-died?” I shuttered. This couldn’t be true, right? This is just a nightmare that I’m going to wake up from any moment. “Come on now, it’s time to wake up!” I ordered myself.

“I’m sorry Ms. but you’re not dreaming, your parents did die,” he told me.

“You’re lying.” I snapped before I shut the door in the police man’s face. I pressed my back to the door and slid down with a tear sliding down my face. No.. no.. no this couldn’t be happening right?  They were alive this morning, they were alright. Tears started falling unstoppable out down my face.

“El,” my little sister, Hanna, whispered, “are you alright?”

“Yes,” I answered as I tried to smile but failed.

“Are you sure?” She asked again.

I wiped the tears falling down my face and replied, “Yes, yes I am.”

I looked up trying to avoid my little sister’s gaze to find Zach, my younger brother, leaning against the door frame. He was studying my face trying to know what’s wrong with me.

“El, what’s wrong?” He asked firmly and by the look in his eyes I knew that he knew something bad happened. They had to know, that I knew. But how on earth will I get the strength to tell them what happened? That I didn’t know.

“Um..” I sighed. “Follow me please, I need to talk to you.” They didn’t say a word, they just followed me.

“El, were you crying?” Emily asked me once I entered the living room where she was sitting. But I didn’t give her a response, I just looked at her and she knew that there was something wrong.

“Look, what I’m going to tell you isn’t the best news that you’ve ever heard. Worse, it’s the worst news you’ve ever heard and going to hear,” I said bitterly and they just looked at me. “This afternoon your parents had an accident,” I informed them and they all looked at me with shocked eyes.

“Are they alright?”

“Are they in the hospital?”

“Shouldn’t we be at the hospital if they had an accident?”

“Can’t we talk to them?”

They rained me with questions but I couldn’t get myself to answer them. They were expecting to see them again, to laugh with them and have them among us again. But they didn’t know that our parents were gone forever and all they’ll ever have left from them is a grave to visit and some old stuff.

When I didn’t answer them, they knew something was wrong. Zach walked over to me and put his hand on my shoulder.

“They’re not alright, are they?” He asked and I shook my head. That was enough for him because he wrapped his arms around me hugging me tightly. It didn’t take long till my other two sisters understood what happened and came to join our hug.

For once in my life I wished I could go back in time so I could have more time with my parents.
