Dan.
He had been your boyfriend for a while now, almost a year in fact, and you were in that 'comfortable' stage of the relationship. It had always been your favourite stage, not that you had got to this point in many before. It was past the awkwardness of the first few dates but not far enough in that it lacked excitement. You felt as if you knew everything about him, probably more than he did himself, and were happy to to think that he felt the same of you. Thinking back to previous boyfriends, you had never felt serious about any. You could count them on a hand and it was fair to say they were all a bunch of jerks. But not Dan. No, Dan was different. He was everything to you, and these feelings were not ones you had experienced before.
"Popcorn!" You hear a voice say cheerfully, making you jump and releasing you from your thoughts. You look up and smile to see Dan holding a big bowl of freshly microwaved popcorn in front of you.
"Sweet or salted?" You ask, not so much asking for the flavour but testing him on his knowledge of you.
"Salted of course, do you really think I would dare to risk a war breaking out if I handed you sweet?" Dan replies jokingly.
"I knew I had a boyfriend for something" you wink, laughing at his reply.
You pat the space on the sofa next to you, gesturing for him to join you. You loved movie nights with Dan. It was one of the little alone times you two got with eachother. Although you love hanging out with Phil, sometimes you needed more time as a couple which was hard when you lived with someone else. These were the nights where you got a chance to really be together.
"Hold up, we haven't even put the disk in yet." Dan pointed out.
"Dan, we haven't even chosen a film"
"True. Well what would madam like, we have a wide variety of films at cinema Dan" He jokes, wavering his hand over the large selection of DVD's stacked upon the shelves at the back of the room.
"Ohh it's my choice for once" You laugh.
"Of course!" He replied, acting as though he wasn't always the one who moaned if he didn't get to choose the film.
"Hmmm" you pause, "Madam's thinking a chick flick, anything with Sarah Jessica Parker."
Dans jaw drops, looking at you quizzically.
Giggling, you continue, "I'm joking of course. Pfft you shouldn't have given me this control if you weren't prepared for a Sex in the City marathon"
"You had me scared for a moment, the horrors of when you forced me through 'Mean girls' are still in my mind."
"If you're from Africa, why are you white?" You both say at the same time, resulting in more laughter.
"No but in all seriousness," Dan starts, "Kick Ass or Scott Pilgrim?"
"That's tough."
"I know right?" Dan agrees.
"We're just going to have to watch both, Scott Pilgrim first, just because Ramona Flowers rules all."
Dan laughs, "Yes, good point. I'll get us drinks if you start it up"
"Deal!" You call, him having already made his way through to the kitchen.
Getting up, you scan the shelves for the DVD, it's noticeable because of the bright red spine. Eventually spotting it, you place it in the DVD player and turn to make your way back to the sofa.
By the time Dan returns with drinks, you have already clicked play, not bothering to wait because you know you like to watch the trailers whereas Dan will make you skip them.
