Chapter 1: Finding Phoenix Drop

          I woke up, exhausted and hungry, in a forest, not remembering how I got here or where here is. I stood up, using a tree for balance. I began to walk, not knowing where I was going. Eventually I collapsed and fell asleep.

          I heard voices and a light pierced my vision. "She's awake!" I heard a female voice say. My eyes cracked open but then immediately closed, tears streaming down my face. Strong hands helped me sit up and a tray was set on my lap. I opened my eyes and saw two women and an orange-haired guard in the room. The blond girl spoke to the other girl, and then left the room. "Hello, I'm Aphmau. Are you okay?" Said the girl with the black hair. "Yes, I'm fine, thank you. Where am I?" The orange-haired guard spoke. "Are you going to tell us your name?" His voice was gruff, and his eyes were grey, not really focusing on anything.

          "Laurance! Don't be rude! I'm sorry for him. He's a bit grumpy. You're in the village of Phoenix Drop. Welcome!" I gazed around the room, taking it all in before I spoke. "Oh, I'm (y/n) Nice to meet you." The guard turned to Aphmau and lowered his voice, yet I could still hear him. "Aphmau, is she cute?" Aphmau looked shocked, yet she grinned. "Laurance, what happened to 'My Love' and 'Angel'?" I slid my bare feet from the covers and noticed my old clothes were gone, replaced with a simple nightgown. 

          The door opened and the girl with the blond hair returned, holding a vial of liquid. "Here, drink this." She said, setting it on my lap. "I'm Zoey. What's your name?" I told her my name and then she told me to rest. Everybody left and I layed back down on the bed. About half an hour later, the door opened, and Aphmau came in. 

          "How are you feeling?" She asked. "Better, thank you. I'm in your debt." She shook her head, "No need to thank me. I'll always help someone in need." I nodded. My gaze fell to the door, where a soft knock came from. "Come in." Aphmau said softly. A guard wearing armor and a helm that completely covered his face came in. He glanced at me and said, "Are you the girl they found in the woods?" I nodded. "I'm Garroth, the head guard." I wished I could see his face. "I'm (y/n) Nice to meet you Garroth." 

 *The next day*

          Aphmau came in with a change of clothes. "My friend Cadenza made them. You'll meet her soon." Then she left. I changed out of the nightgown, carefully folding it and putting it on the bed. The change of clothes were a tunic and leggings. Along with it was a pair of leather boots and a hairband. I quickly braided my hair and then went outside. Aphmau, Garroth, Zoey, Laurance, and two little boys were waiting. I crouched at the boys. "Who are these cuties?" The blond boy toddled towards me and held out a toy train. "These are my sons, Levin and Malachi." I picked up the train Levin had given to me and rolled it across the floor. "Awe!" I looked up at Garroth. I didn't think he had a heart.

          He came over and Malachi said, "Garroth, you should play with us! I like (y/n)! She's almost as good at trains as you!" I said, "Almost?" Grinning, I slid the train across the floor at full speed. Levin gaped at it as it reached the other side of the room in 5 seconds. "Wow!" The boys ran across the room after the train, and I went and sat at the table with the others. "You're good with kids, aren't you?" Zoey said. "Yeah, I don't remember anything before the forest, but it's easy to be around kids." Laurance smirked. I had figured out he was blind. 

          "We've been talking about where you can stay, and until we can get you a house, you're welcome to stay with me. Laurance will sleep out here, and Zoey has her own room." Aphmau said. "I'm so thankful to you. You've been nothing but generous to me. I probably would have died without you." Aphmau shook her head. "You've thanked me enough." Smiling, she pushed food towards me. They began to talk as I stuffed my face.

*A few hours later*

          I walked outside the house in a new dress. Aphmau and Zoey were leading me to the plaza, where there would be a party to welcome me to the town. I looked at the village around me, passing houses of all sorts. I was really excited for this. 

          We made it to the plaza. Garroth wasn't there, but Laurance was at one of the tables. Aphmau introduced me to Kiki, Emmalynn, Brendan, Molly, Dale, Emma, Corey, and Brian. I also met Donna and Logan, a recently married couple. Then I heard a gasp from Aphmau. I turned around.

"Garroth?"
