Now it was well known to all who lived in the small town of Drindire, in the land of Goatremo, in the castle that say high on the mountain over looking their village, loved one such sorcerer. He was known only as Valias. Valias was considered to be and Evil Sorcerer, even though he rarely wreaked havoc on the villagers below. The fact is that he took great pleasure in his rule over the village and surrounding area. The villagers feared Valias, and seldom ignored his requests. But every now and then he had to show them he was in charge. The last time this had happened, Valias had sent word to the villagers for provisions and such. Near nightfall the next day sensing he had been ignored Valias unleashed his magic. He materialized right in the middle of town and conjured his favorite beast. The giant man eating plant that stood eleven feet high with a single giant pod filled with long poison teeth for a head that opened to devour it's victims. The beast was covered with eyes that opened and closed all over its upper half and two long arms that had claw like hooks to grab with. It could also uproot it self and give chase if hunger became great enough. Needless to say the villagers haven't angered Valias for some while. On occasion though, Valias would send down his only companion to terrorize and bring order. His name was Megelar and he was the biggest man Valias had ever seen and the meanest too. Megelar stood seven feet, six inches tall and weighed over six hundred pounds of pure muscle. He could pick up a full grown bull over his head. The villagers feared Megelar almost as much as they feared Valias when he stormed through the village destroying and laying waste to all he came in contact with. Megalar wreaked destruction upon the village with his favorite weapon, a huge hammer that laid waste and crushed all that came into contact with it. Megelar had lost his right hand during a battle many years past, but Valias had given him a new one forged by metal and magic. This new hand was ten times stronger than the one that had been lost. In a show of strength once he had crushed a ma's skull who had been too slow to get out of his way. Valias ruled his domains like a ruthless king with his one man army, but he never let himself get too carried away with punishing the small village. He had bigger fish to fry- namely the sorcerer Magnus, who lived no more than thirty miles away in his own castle. Valias' power had grown enormously in the last one hundred years and as he neared his eight hundredth year he feared no one. He had already disposed of two Sorcerers that had made the foolish mistake of challenging him. Both of them had been great Sorcerers of great renown, power and reputation among sorcerers. By killing Valias had earned a great deal of respect from other sorcerers. The exception of course was Magnus who had recently entered Valias' realm, breaking one of the most honored laws among the sorcerers. Valias and Magnus had fought before, when they had both been young and unwise in the arts of sorcery. The battle had ended with both walking, unable to fly away or even vanish and teleport to the place of their choice which was the preferred mode of travel. Since that time they had both avoided each other until recently.
When Valias had found out that Magnus overstepped his bounds and disrespectfully entered his realm creating havoc in the village. Valias knew that he must take action. Magnus' intrusion on Valias' domain and village included taking maidens and slaves from the village and using his magic for cruel torture. The villagers fe at ed Magnus even more than they feared Valias. The villagers knew well that Magnus enjoyed torturing his captives deep in his castle. Those taken were never seen again. Magnus was a truly wicked and Evil sorcerer, even Valias disliked him for his exteme acts of cruelty. This latest act of intrusion and disrespect could not go unanswered. The village was his domain and even though the villagers feared Valias and he used them for his own plans and desires. The villagers still looked to him for their protection and it would be taken as a sign of weakness if Valias ignored this intrusion.
"So it seems Magnus is ready for a re-match." Said Valias, speaking to himself as he sat on his throne crafted from th bones and skin of a dragon. Valias was in his prime and would be for another six to seven hundred years, then his powers would cease to increase, by then he would possess the power and knowledge needed to cross that higher dimension of immortality where his life force would never cease to exist. He was ready for a battle, he relished the thought of destroying Magnus- but Magnus was not one to be underestimated. Magnus' power was legendary amongst the sorcerers. Valias was brought back from his daydream of destruction by one of his guards approaching.
"My lord," the guard bowed low. "A girl from the village is seeking an audience with you. What is your command my lord?"
Seldom a villager would ask to see him Valias thought to himself. This could be amusing.
"Bring her to me." Said Valias, "Then back to your post."
"Yes my Lord" the guard replied.
Valias was different from most sorcerers. Very rarely did sorcerers allow others to roam about their castles, most sought only seclusion and preferred to be alone to study Their magic arts. Valias, however, enjoyed the power he had so he kept guards as well as a small staff of village woman to cook and clean for him. He also liked having the extra eyes watching out for him when he was otherwise occupied with his studies. He never knew when he might be attacked by another sorcerer seeking to take his most prized possession. (His book of magic.) Valias had never allowed anyone to see his book. The knowledge he had acquired over hundreds of years of study and searching filled it's pages. The guard reappeared with the young woman gently prodding her through the two massive iron doors that lead to his audience chambers. The girl looked quickly about seeing the lavish furnishing and expensive tapestries adorning the walls in red and purple. Scenes of long ago battles adorned the few bare spots. Her fear apparent in her trembling slow steps she was on the verge of running from the room. Valias beckoned to her gently.
"Come here young lady and tell me what troubles you." His voice was velvet covered steel. The girl approached more quickly and threw herself to the floor at his feet. On her knees she looked up pleadingly to his face. Valias could see that she was greatly troubled and had been weeping recently. Her hands still held a tear stained kerchief.
"What troubles you girl?" Valias asked.
"Please forgive me my Lord. I come to you only for the sake of my sister. She has been missing for two days and we have searched everywhere. She would not have left the safety of our village below." The girl said. "The sorcerer Magnus, my Lord, has taken her! Please my Lord bring her back. I will do anything for you, just please save her." At this the young woman began to sob deeply.
Despite the obvious, but simple beauty of the woman, Valias could really care less about either her or her missing sister. His anger, though, was rising with the knowledge that Magnus had violated his realm. This act of total disregard for acceptable behavior between sorcerers was a slap in Valias' face. All sorceress gave each other a wide berth, never coming close enough to even see each other's castles with their own eyes. He has gone too far Valias thought to himself. His hand tightened around the arm of his throne. A challenge has been made.
"Go back to your village young woman. You have done well to come to me with this information. I will do what I can if it is not already too late. As for your promise I will see you about that another time." Valias laughed evilly. Valias yelled at his guards "Send Megelar to me and the rest the rest of you best be on your best watch. Do not displease me. We are at war as of now!" Valias then vanished in a cloud of smoke leaving his laugh echoing around the room as the trembling girl and guards left to do as he had told them.
Valias appeared instantly in his favorite room. To the untrained eye it appeared to be that of an alchemist's nightmare but Valias loved it and knew where and what everything was. He stride quickly to the table in the center of the room to begin planning. Snapping his fingers his books of magic came from its hiding place. He must prepare. He knew that Magnus would fight to the death and that Magnus was trying to draw him from his fortress into a fight on a battle feild of Magnus' choosing.
"You will never disrespect me again Magnus." Valias growled as he began to assemble the needed magics for the coming batyle. Valias was confident "No little trucks in your puny castle will stand in my way. Your times is coming Magnus."
Valias again teleported to another room where Megelar would shortly meet him.
