It was hard to say which came first, the path to The Worlds or the strong bond they had for one another. Of course it was the bond, but The Worlds certainly enriched it. They could do anything with their minds. Create worlds out of dreams. But with all dreams comes the occasional nightmare.
The coming dusk formed a slow rumbling wind through the tall trees swaying high. Jesse sat in his favorite rocking chair that sat direct center on a wrap-around deck. He hald some important decisions to make, and at the age of sixty-seven; this was not his first rodeo.
The approaching moon brought distant but vibrant memories swimming in his mind. He had married Skyye in a traditional wedding in 1968. Afterwards, they ran deep into the woods of Lennonwood and immersed themselves into their own dimension that held a secret matrimony.
The Worlds defined who they were as human beings, or something much more powerful. It brought them together through connected souls.
It all started from the very beginning. Jesse had met Skyye at the age of fifteen when she moved into town with her grandma. He had seen he underneath the tree by the edge of Lennonwood. She was sitting against the tree, reading a book on a blanket with a piece of straw hanging out of her mouth. The auburn hair she had pinned up was shining radiantly in the afternoon sun. The red polka dotted dress flowed in the wind against her perched up knees. Jesse stood at the edge of the far road starring from a distance. Before she looked up from her book, he knew he had to love her. The skin on his neck pricked to gooseflesh, chilling his damp shirt with cold sweat.
Skyye looked up from her book and squinted to gain focus on an upcoming figure.
She had seen him also. As she sat her book down, stood up, and began approaching, Jesse knew his life was about to be changed. The sight of her walking behind the towering sun in her flowing dress, before words was spoken, feelings had been deeply engaged.
A small amount of telepathy was formed between them. Seeing images through each other's eyes, knowing for a split-second what the other was thinking, fractured precognitive instincts for one another.
This was before they knew their power.
A rare occurrence when two minds become infused to a power level of great magnitude. These people are often called "Embracers" or "Connectors". A pair of minds able to create worlds and landscapes solely between their spirits. Many worlds have been created, and many worlds have been destroyed.
Jesse began slowly rocking to the beat of the breeze against the house. Skyye lays in the upstairs bedroom frozen in a non-conscience state. Her mind hidden behind barriers and locked down to the pit of her soul.
He had to find her.
He had to bring her mind away from the darkness. There were certainly risks, going too deep into her mind could trap his and leave him in the exact same state she resides at now.
That didn't matter. He loved her as he always did. Taking care of her was more than an obligation, it was a pact he made the moment he laid eyes upon her. They have been through wars and battles together as The Worlds was not always ecstasy. A group of various dilemmas came along the way through their lives.
Jesse stood up and made way to the fresh grass below. The moon engulfed his figure, turning him into a shadow.
It was soon time to go back. He will always remember the ways of The Worlds as he did from the very beginning. This in a way was a beginning, the beginning of the end.
