I said goodnight to Eve and crawled to the castle distressed. The slight purple around my eyes was always darkened when I fed. Like there was a bigger monster inside me seeping through the cracks. I didn't want to be like this, it didn't take a genious to tell me that.
I still kept thinking about the two innocent girls I had killed on my way here for food. Did they deserve that?
The taste of them was still in my mouth, like the perfect meal, the monster in me protested proving that they were no doubt my one and only prey. I would eat human food if it didn't taste so disgusting. But it made me sick to my stomach, and too heavy to fly.
Sunad felt much colder tonight, or maybe it was just me. I unbraided my hair when I got to the castle door and waited for the guards to let me in. I was surprised when Demicus himself opened the door. How beautiful he was. His long hair spread across his muscular arms. He smiled only slightly, a human would not recognize it.
"I wasn't expecting you tonight. " He said, opening the door wider and inviting me in. I wasn't planning on coming tonight. I guess I felt rejected by Aaron. I shouldn't have kissed him.
"I'll leave if you’re busy." I said walking ahead of him and up the castle stairs. It got colder the higher we went.
"I'm always happy to see you princess. You know that." He said in a low key voice. It was almost seducing.
"Princess?" I protested.
He smiled at my reaction. I still didn't understand how my human like ways and kind heart attracted Demicus. It was not like our kind.
We entered his room that was only lit by a small candle. All the lights in his room were gone. I noticed as I looked up at the castles roof and saw a gaping hole.
"Demicus? Why is there a hole where you’re light should be? Did you all of a sudden prefer moonlight?" I asked jokingly. It was silent when I glanced over to a silent and troubled minx.
"What's the matter?" I asked concerned. He moved to my side now, like we had been the other day, and I let his hard hands caress my soft and small ones.
"I'm afraid I let my anger get the best of me." He answered. I looked to the side of the bed to see a hole through the brick wall and through the outside of the castle. A chilled breeze came through it and my face went into a sympathetic frown.
"Why were you angry?" I asked.
He let out a slight snarl before meeting my eyes. "We are almost out of resources and I have had to kill 2 minx today for fighting over reserved food. They don't know how to share and as soon as things get worst, it will be every minx for themselves. That's not a kingdom I wish to rule."
I sat there looking at Demicus. his eyes their calm green, I knew only I got to see him like this, and it made me feel special. I wish Aaron cared about me like he did.
"Oh Demicus." I answered. I embraced his arm and relaxed my head on his broad shoulder. He tensed. You could tell he wasn't use to close contact. I rubbed his arm, assuring him that it was fine and sighed when he relaxed.
"What ever the results of this. You are not to blame. You told them what to do to survive, and you have set the rules down. You have done your part. Do not be angered or upset." I listened to the calmness of my voice and hoped it soothed him as much as it did Eve.
"As soon as things begin to get bad, Zayon will step in. He will force me to destroy the land, just like Terra Nova." He said raising his voice slightly. I winced at the thought of Zayon returning. Zayon was king. The father of Demicus, and I use the term father loosely.
"I like it here. I like my flock." I nodded in agreement. Our flock had been through a lot. Not only the destruction of Terra Nova, but rebuilding your home was not easy. Especially with a king watching over the land. For weeks and months, no one was aloud to leave or come in. We were slaves to Zayon.
All he cared about was how each of his sons, held him a beautiful land. He couldn't control everything by himself, but he found a way for his sons to control things, yet he takes all the credit.
Zayon was a monster in every term of the word. He had fiery red hair and was much taller and muscular than Demicus. The very look of him spelled power and the very thought of him sent fear drilling into your bones. Often we had seen him take the lives of innocent Minx, just to prove that he ruled our land.
I didn't want him to return, it worried me.
I noticed I had blanked out and Demicus was staring at me confused.
I turned away from his gaze and kept my worrying to myself.
"Maybe you should try and get some sleep Demicus." I said awkwardly. I pushed him down on to the bed and laid my head on his firm chest. It felt weird now, coming back to my land after earth. If I were human I would be uncomfortable with my breast leaning against someone I had no feelings for. But we were not ashamed of our nakedness here.
Demicus pulled me into a deep embrace, almost like a child would a teddy bear. It made me smile and I remained still until Demicus had drifted into his dreams.
