Off With Their Heads

Chapter 6

After ending the illusion, Evangeline slumped into her chair, a single tear sliding down her face. Fury and Hill, along with the Avengers in the other room sere shocked. Hill recovered first and asked, "But why don't you have scars. That knife would have left huge ragged ones."

Evangeline wiped the tear away and smiled slightly, "Don't assume that what you see is what is true." She snapped her finger again and slowly her flawless face dissolved into a scarred one.

The scars were slightly raised and weren't at all ragged, instead they were straight and precise. Even of he was drunk, Evangeline's father made sure to make them so they would last forever.

But that wasn't what they were looking at. It was her mouth that they were staring at. While the wounds healed, they didn't heal together, making her mouth look like it was forever in a smile. As if to demonstrate, Evangeline grinned widely, the scars showing her teeth and making her look like the Chesire Cat.

"It scared the newer ones and even some of the older ones. So I covered them up. When my Knights took me, they closed all of them up. All but this," she said gesturing to her mouth before putting the illusion back in place, "They helped me control my powers and helped whenever I brought another in."

"Another what in?" Fury asked.

"Another person. I would make trips around cities, whenever I heard the screams of a child or a woman I would help them. I would give them a choice, stay there or come with me. Most came with me to my kingdom that I made, while others stayed. I would give them a place to stay and teach them to defend themselves."

"Where is your kingdom? And who are your knights?" Hill asked.

"I might be open to other questions you have but that one is classified. I can tell you what I call it. Salutem. Only my Knights and I can get there. As for my Knights. I created them in my mind. Never can see their faces but they are always talking so I can make a assumption on gender and age."

"What are your powers?" Fury asks leaning forward.

"I can teleport, make people insane, make anyone do what I want, move things with my mind, summon my Knights, make illusions, summon food and can create a link between another person and myself that will allow me to know if they are in danger so I can protect them."

They were silent for a while, then Fury asks, "Why did you kill the people?"

Evangeline smiles widely again. "Look up their records and the crimes in their area, then get back to me."

"Okay one more question," Fury says, looking at the window where the others are. He looked back at her before asking, "How would you like to join the Avengers?"
