"The waves look stronger today," were the words that spoke inside me. "One of the boys already got rid of his last meal." A major part of the metallic area of the transport ship was covered with pieces of food that had already been digested by these young men. The odor of rotten potato soup is what my nostrils were sucking instead of air.
They are all trusting their lives on those m1 helmets. One of the boys is chewing gum. He is making a lot of noise and another boy is starting to point his eyes at him. He does nothing to detain the act that is obviously bothering him, perhaps he knows this is not the right time to start making enemies among comrades. He ignores the chewing guy and keeps staring at the sea.
The one man who is standing in front of the gate that will open when we arrive to our destined island, can't stop shaking. His pale hands are unable to stay calm. The cold could be the one that is causing him this unpleasant sensation. Although the breathing of each boy can be seen with ease, he is the only one who shows this unique anxiety, "He looks like if he wanted to jump out of the boat and swim back to his land." Were my unspoken words.
There it is, the island that we have been looking for. One of the other boats in our right side decides to move forward in a faster pace than ours. Then the unpredictable happens...
The explosion left all our comrades floating on the sea; a reddish hue began to expand in the sea. We can't do nothing but keep moving and try to reach the white land. I hope that destiny allows our arrival to be less painful than the one our comrades have just experienced.
