Your father being an instructor at Top Gun, you had grown up meeting pilots, becoming friends, and then watching them be dismissed to various missions. None of the close bonds that you made with them really lasted, due to the in and out of the pilots. But there was this one, this lad named Maverick. He was different. The first day he came, he started small-talking with you, and you loved the way his eyes twinkled behind his sunglasses, how his lips twitched when he smirked. Everything about him was perfect to you. Except for one thing: He never sang to you. He always flirted with other girls, singing awfully to them, but it was cute. You were jealous - he'd kept your relationship strictly friendship. A close friendship, but still, nothing more.

One night, it was the last straw. You went to a bar with him and Goose, before the volleyball game, and he walked away and started teasing another girl, singing to her with crazy big eyes. You couldn't take it anymore and just left. You were sitting outside, easing your nerves with a Coca Cola, while staring at the sunset.

Maverick sat down next to you and asked, "Y/N? Are you alright?"

"No Mav, I'm not..." You began to say, but got annoyed and turned away from him.

"Was it something I did? I'm sorry Y/N. Whatever it is, please tell me," He pleaded.

"I don't get it. You flirt with all of the other girls, except me. Why?" You asked.

Maverick hesitated before answering, "Because, I know that it won't work on the other girls. And I don't care about that. But if I can't get my charm to work on you, then I'll lose the love of my life AND my best friend."

You started to tear up as your realized Maverick was afraid of you saying no to him. You kissed him on the cheek, grabbed his hand, and dragged him back to the base where your father's plane was.

"Fly me somewhere, Maverick. I won't turn you down, ever."

He smiled, at a loss for words. As the sun was setting, Maverick flew you guys around in a plane. You missed the volleyball game, but it didn't matter anymore. Iceman probably won anyway, but Maverick won in something else - scoring you.

"One more thing, Mav," you said, as he walked you home, "I'm still waiting for you to sing to me."
