Bella ran as hard as her thin legs could carry her, a backpack bouncing on her back. Her brown hair flowed with the wind, framing her olive skin. Her calculating eyes looked around wildly. The sun made her hazel pupils tint with orange. Cars whizzed by her, making her anxious. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw someone staring at her. She looked towards a friendly-looking face. He was small and scrawny, and started moving toward her with a weird limp in his big legs. A small goatee hung from his chin and his large, deer-like eyes stared at her. "You need to come with me," he said, looking around. Bella knew why he was so alert. She saw the monsters too. "What's your name?" she asked, her voice high pitched and squeaking. The teenage boy smiled at her, "My name's Oak." "That's a name," she smiled. For an eight year old, she was pretty tough. "Thanks. I hope you trust me," he said. "You have the trusting look!" She followed behind him, her hand touching a small pocket knife she stole from a nearby auto shop just in case he wasn't as trusting as his face let off.
