Chapter Two

The next day at Sam's birthday party, I couldn't stop drifting off thinking about Harry. People at the party kept asking if something was wrong. I would respond with a "Yeah I'm fine" to whatever they said and fell back into my little daydream.

Sam knew something was up. She was my best friend after all. She knew everything about me and I knew everything about her. We could tell by just one look if something was up. She pulled me to the side and asked if something was on my mind.

"Hey are you okay? You seem a little off today. Did you meet someone or something?"

"God, you know me so well!" I said dreamily.

"Who's the boy?" she asked me playfully.

"Oh stop it's nothing." I snapped out of my daydream. "He would never go for me anyway."

"Come on Scarlett! Spill it!"

"Well..."

"Come on!" Sam exclaimed

"Okay I met this guy at the bakery down the street, he's so hot but I have zero  chance of ever being with him. That's how hot he is. He talked to me so I don't know. ."

"Oh my god! You could actually get a boyfriend! He may be your first, I say go for it if you can!"

"I don't know, what if he has a girlfriend..."

"He may not Scarlett, I say it's worth a try."

"I really want you to see him though. You need to meet him. He's the sweetest thing you'll ever meet."

"Do your parents know about him?"

"Oh hell no. My parents barely let me leave the house as is."

"Oh so it could be a secret relationship if you can make that work." She wiggled her eyebrows at me seductively.

"I still don't even know if he likes me yet. I need to see him again, maybe even get his number. But we only talked for like two minutes."

"That's a good start. Go for it! Nothing is impossible as they say."

"Thanks Sam for trying to help, I really appreciate it."

"That's what friends are for!"

"Okay you can stop being a friend now." I smiled.

"Ha ha ha. Okay now let's get back to my party. Shall we?"

"Let's do it!" I exclaimed.

Maybe Sam was right, maybe I did have a chance, at least I hope I do. I've had boys like me before but most we're fuckboys and the unpopular gross kids, but Harry was like a dream.

He was too perfect for me but I had to try, I mean I could probably get his number. If he could be mine, I would be the happiest person on earth. First things first, I need to get to know him better. I only know what his favorite colors are. He doesn't even know what mine are yet. Tomorrow I will make up some dumb excuse like I always do when I want to get out of the house from my annoying parents and sister. Maybe I'd go pay him a visit at the bakery and have an excuse to talk to him some more.

I said goodbye to Sam and wished her a happy 16th birthday and started to walk home. I put my ear buds in and started to listen to Pink Floyd. As I was about to turn the corner, my notification went off letting me know I had tennis practice tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 pm. I was looking at my phone and not paying attention to where I was going and I bumped into someone. My phone feel and clattered to the floor.  I looked up and was super surprised to see Harry standing right in front of me, looking into my eyes like he had done before. He bent down and grabbed my phone and wiped it off with his sleeve. He handed it to me.

"Oh hey Scarlett!"

He recognized me. I was kind of confused. The only person that was excited to see me was Sam.

"Hey Harry. Sorry I bumped into you. Wasn't looking where I was going." I said nervously.

"Ha ha no worries love. Where are you off too this late?"

It was like 9:00 pm, usually when the bakery closed down for the day.

"Just walking home from a friends house. What about you?"

That was a stupid question, I knew exactly where he was going. I just wished it was the same place I was going.

"Home after a long and busy day at work. The bakery was packed today! Almost ran out of supplies. My parents were almost going crazy. "

"That sucks." I said blushing a little bit.

He smiled. He was so close to me I could feel the warmth from his breath. I was so nervous. I hadn't been this close to a boy, especially not one as hot as him.

"I better be going, my parents are expecting me home soon." I said awkwardly.

"Oh alright."

He sounded disappointed but it must have been me.

"I'll see you again, no?" he asked.

"I'll be around." I said.

"Good thing. Hey do you go to school around here?" he asked

"Yeah I go to Woodridge High. I'm a sophomore." I told him

"Weird that I've never seen you before, I'm in the grade above you." he told me.

"Oh cool I didn't know, that's also weird that I've never seen you before."

I wanted to ask him for his phone number so badly but I was so afraid he would say no and I'm still shocked he's even acknowledging me.

"Hey can I ask you a question?" I said scared

"Sure anything love."

"Could I have um your number by any chance."

I cringed and kinda smiled at the same time longing for his answer. Remember small steps! I told my self. I stood there in the freezing cold under a lamp post, waiting patiently for his response. I went to far. I knew it. I was going too fast.

He turned around. I couldn't see what he was doing. What if he walked away? Then what? I wondered. I stood there waiting for him to either turn around and get on his knees... whoa way to far Scarlet, I thought to myself. God, he's taking forever. Will he ever turn around? Was he thinking? I didn't know. I stood their waiting for like what seemed like a lifetime.
