30 Days with Genevieve

Chapter 17

Day 16:

I smirked and closed my suitcase. That weekend was going to be awesome, or at least that's what I hoped. Maybe I still had one more day to prepare my clothes for the weekend, but I still wanted to do it early because I was dying to do something that day.

What I wanted to do was nothing less and nothing more than take Genevieve to watch a surgery. Yes, I said surgery. My uncle is a doctor, and he arranged everything so that we could go see the surgery he was going to do. He was really excited to hear I wanted to see how he worked, so he settled an appointment for us to go that Thursday.

I knew Genevieve wanted to be a doctor, so I thought she would have fun watching it, and I thought maybe it would make her really happy.

"What are you doing?" Peter asked once he woke up and saw the suitcase on my bed.

"Packing my stuff. I'm leaving tomorrow," I said. "I'm tired of this family. I better leave as soon as possible."

Peter's eyes widened, and I just burst out laughing. "What's so funny?" he asked.

"You should've seen your face!" I exclaimed.

"Ha, ha. Very funny," he said once he realized I was joking.

"Sorry," I muttered.

"But really. Where are you going?" he asked.

"Tomorrow I'm going with Genevieve to her grandparents'house," I replied.

"Cool," he muttered. "But they will not let you stay there. They are way too strict."

"Don't worry about it, Peter. I know how to make adults like me," I said, hoping everything will go as I expect.

"If you say so..." he said with sarcasm. I just rolled my eyes and continued to pack my stuff.

Genevieve opened her front door and smiled weakly at me. "Hey."

"Hey," I said shyly. "How are you?" I noticed my voice was being way sweeter than usual, and I had no idea of why Genevieve made me act that way. She just made me want to be kind.

"I'm fine," she muttered. "But you got to go."

"Why's that?" I asked confused.

"My dad is here, and you know he doesn't like you," she said.

"I know, but I'm not here to see him. I'm here to see you."

"Sean," she said with a wry smile. "I like you and all that but... my dad hates you!"

"I know he does, but--"

"Who are you talking to?!?" yelled Genevieve's dad from behind.

"Um, no one," she said while her hands trembled.

Genevieve's dad pushed her away and saw me standing in front of the door. "You.." he said while glaring at me.

"I'm sorry, sir. I just wanted to take Genevieve out for a couple of hours," I explained.

"Well, you can't," he said dryly.

"But--"

"I said you can't!" he spat.

"Stop it, dad!" Genevieve exclaimed from behind. She pushed her dad away and got out of the house. "I am tired of you telling me what to do! Sean is my friend! Whether you like it or not! And I hope you understand that I am going with him because I want to, not because he forces me to! Got it?"
