Reid worked vigorously for the past hour to get his mind off of the conversation Hotch was having with everyone on the team, except for him of course. He knew what they were already discussing and it made him angry that he couldn't walk into the room and scream at the top of his lungs that Carmen was innocent. He'd yell it so loud that it would shake Hotch's ribcage and would hopefully allow his heart to catch the passion that vibrated within him from Reid's voice. He took a deep breath to calm himself down and then exhaled to release all the built up tension within him that was driving him insane. He thought he should distract himself or else he'd be trying to take a glimpse into the room every few minutes, which was just really torturing his soul to the core. Reid decided to continue working on his own little private case that Hotch knew nothing about, which seemed extremely fair for him to do since Hotch excluded him from the case as if he was never really apart of the team. Leaning back in his chair and looking up to the ceiling, he thought about that missing letter, which he liked to label: Missing 60. He had read through all of the letters from Jeremy to Rossi and he wrote down some key differences in the way he wrote to Rossi versus how he wrote to his brother. The way he wrote to Rossi wasn't very secretive and talked in a less poetic way, more free of his words than calculated. He came to many conclusions as to why this was the case; he wanted to protect Carmen, he wasn't in danger at the time or he was just going deeper into his depressive state, which led to illusions. Reid was compelled to find that letter to tie everything together.
He looked towards the briefing room to see if they were finished talking yet and to his delight they weren't. Reid picked up his office phone and dialed a familiar number, still glancing at the briefing room in case they came out. It rang for a long while, making him nervous that Hotch and the rest of the team would come out soon and Hotch would get mad at him for making personal calls at work.
"Bello Italia, the most authentic Italian food you'll ever eat. Antonio speaking," Antonio said from the other line.
"Antonio, it's me, Spencer," Reid said.
"Spencer? Oh, how are you? How's Carmen?" he asked.
"We're both good. I just really need to ask you a crucial question," Reid said, his heart beginning to beat faster as he saw everyone getting up.
"Oh, what's that?" he asked.
"Is there a letter that I'm missing? There's only 59 and I know there's another letter since Jeremy sent letters every two weeks and I would explain the math, but I don't have time,"
"Well, I only received those letters, so if there is a missing letter than it's lost forever since there was no letters in their house when it was cleared out and no late mail from that time period," Antonio explained.
Reid let out a frustrated sigh, but recollected himself as soon as he saw Hotch open the door.
"But I do have something that I forgot to tell-"
"I have to go, bye," Reid quickly said before hanging up, not even taking in what Antonio was trying to say.
Hotch departed the group quickly with Rossi following behind to go to their separate offices. Rossi's face looked all sorts of aggravated and Reid couldn't tell if that was because he thought Hotch was being unreasonable like he believed himself or if it was because he was angry to discover that Carmen was a "bad person." Reid moved his attention away from them when he saw JJ, Emily, Garcia and Morgan approach his desk with looks that reminded him of himself; awkward and uncomfortable. They had every right to be that way since how could they leave a meeting about a case that might involve their close friends significant other and then having to go back to being normal around him; it just wasn't going to work. He looked at them with pursed lips and a nod of his head to tell them that he felt their sympathy towards him and how it's okay to feel weird about this whole unjustifiable situation.
