I woke up to nothing but darkness and silence. I couldn't tell where I was or whether I was dead or alive. The silence was broken when I heard footsteps coming towards me. Light flooded into the room as the door opened, revealing a tall male with blue hair with cat like ears, or maybe it was just his hairstyle. He wore a butler outfit. I realised I was in a bedroom and on a bed. The place was so unfamiliar and so was this new character. Mixed emotions of fear, anger, worry, anxiety and suspicion coursed inside my head. Inch by inch, I moved backwards as he approached me. My hands soon came into contact with air and before I knew it, I fell backwards and onto the hard wooden floor.
"Are you okay?"
The male looked down at me with concern.
"Who are you?" It was the only thing I had the courage to ask the blue haired stranger.
He only smiled at me and asked if I remembered him.
"No,"
"Do you know who you are?"
I remained silent. It finally occurred to me that I had no recollection of who I was.
"What did you do to me? Why can't I remember anything?" I began to ask question after question.
"Uh, here," he finally said as he handed me a cup. "Drink, it'll make you feel better."
Reluctantly, I took the cup. My nose picked up a sweet aroma emitting from the cup. Inside was filled with red liquid. A growl from my stomach made me realise how hungry I was. As the sweet smelling scent of the crimson liquid reached my nostrils once more, I felt my hunger grow. However, that wasn't the only thing I felt. I could feel my teeth and eyes change.
The butler must have noticed these changes and lightly grabbed my chin with his thumb and forefinger. Gently, he lifted my head up so that our eyes met.
"Don't worry. You'll get used to it. Just drink, it'll make you feel better," he softly said. It was then I also noticed his eyes change colour.
Greedily, I found myself gulping down the crimson liquid. The sweet tantalising flavour danced on my tastebuds and down my throat. Even after emptying the cup, I thirsted or rather hungered for more.
"You'll get more but first, change into this," he said handing me a dress.
He left the room for a while so I could change. I realised that I was wearing some sort of white nightgown. I cast my eyes around the room to make sure I was completely alone. It was then I noticed how keen my sight was along with my other senses. My eyes captured the fine detail of every object in the room. My nose picked up every scent. I could feel every fibre of the dress I held in my hands. My ears also picked up small sounds such as the distant ticking of a clock.
After changing into the dress, I knocked on the door. The blue haired male appeared before me once again before escorting me to an unknown location. We passed many doors. There was no one else in sight. It wasn't long before I sensed three presence.
"We're here," the butler said as we stopped in front of a large wooden door. He opened the door to reveal a large room. It was quite vacant except for the furniture that decorated the room. In the centre were chairs or sofas circling a fancy looking table. Seated on the chairs were three figures, a woman, a young girl and a man.
The butler motioned me to follow him as he walked towards the three beings. Before leaving, he asked me to sit on the chair opposite the three people.
The young girl smiled at me. She sat in between the other two who were also looking at me.
"How are you feeling?" She asked.
"Fine," I timidly replied.
"My name is Sunako Kirishiki. This here is Chizuru Kirishiki and Seishirou Kirishiki," she said pointing to the blonde female on her left and the man on her other side. "Do you remember who you are?"
I sat there for a while. For some reason, I felt quite uncomfortable around them and wanted to disappear. To answer her question, I shook my head.
"Do you remember anything at all? Your name? Any relatives, friends?" she continued.
Again I shook my head. Thank goodness my hair covered my eyes. For some odd reason, I felt at ease if they weren't able to clearly see my face.
"You must be frightened but don't worry, you can trust me. I can help you. First you need to understand what you are exactly," she said with a serious tone. Despite her young childish appearance and voice, she seemed to be very mature.
"You're not a human, in fact you're a Jinrou or a werewolf," she began, "I'm not sure who turned you or when you became one but you have already died. I'm sure this will be hard to take in but I'll explain this again and Tatsumi will help you as well since he's a Jinrou like you. Don't worry, you're not alone. Some of the villagers and the people you know have risen and become a Shiki or a vampire."
I didn't really get what she was telling me but it didn't really surprise me at all about the villagers being turned into the undead and the village into some sort of haven or paradise for them. I was then escorted back into my room. After a while, I grew bored, so I decided to explore the place. The door wasn't locked, so I was able to leave my room. There wasn't much in wherever this place I was in. Just paintings and some furniture, nothing much. Soon, I heard voices. It was coming from a few doors or rooms away. It was the voices of Sunako and the blue haired male and they were talking. I had a hunch that I was the topic of their conversation and decided to eavesdrop on the two.
