“Savannah! Wake up!”

I groaned as I felt a pillow hitting my stomach.  I peeked my eye open to see my little brothers, Remus at age 13, and my brother Holden at age 10, and my youngest brother Sherlock at 6 years old. Yes.We have the oddest names out of the bunch, but hey, what can we do? Our mother was in love of all of these books. For me, I was named after these series called the Savannah series. My brother Remus was named after Remus Lupin from Harry Potter. Holden from the novel Holden Caulfield. And Sherlock from Sherlock Holmes. Yes. Our mother was a bit eclectic, but we love her all of the same.

“Why do I need to get up?” I growled, not liking to be woken up.

“It’s first day of school again!” exclaimed Sherlock, his wide brown eyes widening in excitement.

“Plus mom said that you’ll drive us to our new schools this morning.” Remus added with a slight shrug.

“And she made breakfast too.” Holden added afterwards. I groaned and rolled over before sitting up.

“Where’s dad?” I asked, looking at them. They all shrugged, before Remus replied, “Work. It is his first day, in his new promotion.”

Oh right.

Forgot to tell you all.

My family moved after winter break to this tiny town in Sault St. Marie, Michigan. It’s different here. It’s much colder. And I wasn’t used to that. I love the winter, don’t get me wrong. But seriously, we’re about forty minutes away from Canada, which I think is pretty cool. I originally lived in Buffalo, New York, so I wasn’t totally surprised by the weather changes here in Michigan. I just wonder how life will be at the Sault (pronounced Soo) High school. Apparently, our mascots are the Wizards. Well, it’s better than the Galloping Ghosts at Buffalo High School. My dad got a new job, being the head of a packaging business in downtown Sault St. Marie, so of course he took it. My mom stays at home, but lately, she is in this whirlwind of an idea of wanting to go into fashion and to make jewelry for a living. At least, I got to bring my car with me from Buffalo to here.

Our house isn’t terribly big. But it isn’t terribly small either. It’s a Victorian house that is close by to other Victorian houses on East Spruce Street. And by car, we were only five minutes away from my high school and my brothers’ schools. We also had our passports since we were young, and we’re all excellent skiers. I have been skiing since I was two years old, and have won races regionally, and nationally. My parents want me to go into Olympics two years ago, but then I blew out my knee that winter. I am trying to go skiing again, but I hope that since we’re living in a very cold area for the next however many months until I go downstate to University of Michigan at Ann Arbor, that I will get back into skiing.

I sigh as I got up, and looked out the window and smiled to myself.  It was slightly snowing. “I’ll be ready in a few minutes. Go eat.” I said with a grin, as I patted their heads, as they all left. I sighed as I ran my fingers through my hair and went to my closet to take out jeans, boots, a long sleeved shirt, a cable knit sweater, and kept my hair down, and pulled my outfit. I got ready in the bathroom and then went down to the kitchen to see my brothers all eating. I smiled and sat down at the table, and took a waffle and drizzled some syrup ontop of it and ate.

“Vannie? We’re ready.” Remus said looking over at me. I nodded and went to the foyer, and took my backpack and slung it onto my back after pulling on a comfortable peacock jacket and then my hat and shoved my gloves into the pockets. “Are you sure about that?” I asked turning around to see my brothers pulling on their snow gear. “I wanna go play in the snow!” Sherlock shouted with a pout on his face. Remus and Holden sighed, before patting on his head. “Well, after mommy comes to pick you up at one, you can play in the snow.” I said to my littlest brother who then sniffled and looked up at me, “Really?” He asked, his eyes widening with excitement. Remus, Holden and I nodded. “Yup.” We answered before leaving the house, and went to the detached garage and hopped into the car. Remus took the passenger’s seat, with Holden and Sherlock in the backseat with Sherlock in his booster seat. I pulled out of the garage and drove over to the elementary school and dropped off Holden and Sherlock.
