Indigo hated social afairs. Thousands of suitors shoved down her throat in terrible dances and words she did not care for. She did however enjoy the pleasure of dancing. Usually with one of her brothers and on rare occasions when she could dance by herself.
The ball room was stirring with life when she finally arrived. Slowly one by one the room fell silent and looked up to admire their fair princess they never saw. She was in the traditional garb of Jalest for balls to honor their guests. It was much tighter than anything she wore usually.
Black lace covered every aspect of her dress, the gloves attached to the sleeves that led to the body of the dress wich was a simple slip that fell to the ankles and pools just a small bit. The lace was over the slip ghosting over her neck and covering every part of the dress and flooding around the floor she walked on. Her six inch heels were to make her a reasonable height in comparison to anyone who would dance with her this evening. She was usually a solid five foot five and most men six foot three and the almost foot difference was not something she enjoyed.
Slowly and elegantly she floated down the stairs and took her fathers hand which guided her over to where the royals would be spending most of their time planning some war to get what they needed to save Indigo's mother. She bowed her head as she sat in her throne and the music began again.
Ahe loved watching the children try and mimick the dance the adults were doing. It always brought a sense of joy to the emotionless abyss she seemed to have become.
After a few moments the song ended and an announcer stepped out onto the floor and with his high and mighty voice said. "In honor of our distinguished guests tonight we will be playing the national anthem of Jalest while sir Social Repose prince of Jalest dances the native dance of Jalest with the fair maiden Indigo Princess of Lucidia."
The room was silent as Social Repose bowed and asked for the dance with Indigo. She placed a laced hand in his and he guided them to the floor.
The song began and you could here gasps as the drums started. The entire dance was filled with twists and arm movements an occasional lift.
Neither would admit it but they were both rather impressed with each others dance capability. In social repose case he had only ever danced with girls who were either to young to know what they were doing or woman who were so in love with their king to be that they didn't much care for what their feet were doing. But much to his distaste Indigo was good. She knew all the moves so that she never once looked at her feet or arms or even him to know if they were in unision.
The song started to fade out as the ended with the two out of breath nowing at each other.
A beat later and there were applause. Social Repose led Indigo back to her throne and left to go speak to his father. Not a moment later Zine appeared in front of Indigo. He bowed and asked "may i have this dance?"
Indigo smirked and replied "why yes kind sir" and zine led her to the floor as an upbeat and violin based song began.
"So how was it? Just as awful as you imagined?" asked Zine referring to the dance she shared priar to his.
"Strangely no. It was rather pleasant and dare i say it, enjoyable." she said confessing her secret.
"Oh dear, he better say something truly aweful before you become decent towards eachother or worse friends." he smiled and laughed spinning her around like all the girls in the room.
Social Repose watching from the top of the stares observed the odd truth of this land. Hundreds of girls skirts flooded in poofy messes as their men twirled them around in vibrant colors. This was true for all but one pair the man in an army uniform and the girl clad from head to beyond feet in black lace.
He wondered why if it was sucj a close friend no one else wore black and also no other maiden wore a veil and he was confused as to why she would. His thoughts were interrupted by a seventeen year old who couldn't take a hint and leave him alone.
"You know she is quite beautiful from here even if you can't see her face." Luka said looking where Social Repose was.
"You have to have seen her face once." social repose said looking over at him.
Luka shook his head and responded "only my parents and zine have in our family and by now they have forgotten what the baby face of our princess looks like. Lillac, her chamber maid, is the only one who has seen her face. Lillac can't speak otherwise she wouldn't either." luka explained
"Treason?" asked social repose in regards to the servant who couldn't talk.
"Fairy." Luka said not thinking about how his guest had never seen a real fairy, only pictures in childrens books.
"I beg your pardon?" Social Repose asked.
"Oh yes I forget that there are lands where fae do not roam. Faeries are a cross between a pixi and an elf. They are human size but can only speak their native tongue which moat humans can not understand. The speak in bells. As far as i know Indigo is the only one in the whole kingdom who can speak the languages of fae." Luka elaborated.
"So what you seem to be telling me is that you don't know your sister really at all." social repose challenged.
"No. What I am telling you is that you don't have to see or hear a person to know them as long as they are open to you. Now back to what you are doing. You can either stand here and stare at my sister all night wondering what she really is, or you could go down there and speak with her. She will not write you off, mostly because she fears mother. And this could avoid a war when my brother and you rule this realm. Don't try to argue with me as long as Indigo is even slightly unamused by you you are in danger of some sibling hatred going your way. Trust me, indigo feeling indiffrent about you is a gain for you and your kingdom." luka babbled on in his great wisdom of seventeen years.
"I see your point but she is the one who insulted my name first." social repose said.
"No. Indigo lacks a filter. She meant no hatm just, no offence, have you heard your name?" luka chuckled.
Social Repose was not ammused. "Have you heard any of your three names?" he countered.
Luka raised his brow at the suddenly defensive prince. "What you mean like mine which is my grandfathers name or perhaps zine which means believer in ancient lucidian or maybe you mean Indigo which-" he cut himself off from the story that wasn't his to tell. "Which means more than any name anyone could come up with." he whispered the last sentence.
Social Repose sencing the over stepped boundary he would have to except said "peehaps i meant vache."
Luka cracked a smile "i have nothing for that one in her home land of Paris her name means cow. I have no clue how a mother would be ok naming a child after something they ate but i am not to judge my grandparents."
"Do odd names run in your family?" social repose asked.
"I'd like to say no but then I'd be lying." Luka answered. "Awe the songs ending you should go ask for the next dance. If you were worth Indigo's time when you last danced she should say yes. She so rarely gets worthy dance partners." luka said motioning to the crowd.
"Why should i?" asked social repose. He found himself growing fond of the child next to him.
"Why because curiosity didn't kill the cat till it got out of the bag and into the streets." Luka answered. With a laugh.
Social repose snorted and walked down the stairs. He gad no idea why but he found himself headed towards the thrones to ask Indigo for another dance. Perhaps the boy was right and they did have a chance at friendship. Or pergaps Zine was right and the two were going to be the best of friends due to their mutal dislike of everything.
