Evan likes to consider himself as a very normal boy. Well, as normal as a gay boy can be. He’s not the smartest, he’s definitely not the most athletic. He’s just an average St. Louis But if you ask anyone, without a doubt, they’d say he’s a shoe-in for sweetest boy ever.

Randy is more of the outgoing type. He’s super athletic, he plays every sport possible in his High School, and he’s super attractive. He’s definitely the most popular person in their Year around, and given the choice, he could easily have two thirds of the student population if he wanted. They just all seemed to fall head over heels for him easily. He could get the new girl to date him within a week or two of her arrival if he so chose.

Their personalities always differed, and from a very young age they knew it, but they always made their friendship work. Many just saw Evan as the follower, and Randy as the leader, but the two boys saw each other as equals. Where one lacked ability, the other made up for it. They were inseparable. Two peas in a pod.

Evan always knew he liked boys. Well, not always. But he figured it out when he kissed Stacy Kiebler, the school slut back in Eight year. He’d always fancied Randy, to be honest. He’d always fantasized about being in Randy’s arms. Sure, he’d been there many times before, but he wanted to lovingly be there. In a way where Randy felt the same. But he knew it was impossible. That kind of thing only happens in fairy tales, and fairy tales are just that. Little small stories used to inform children of happily ever after, a thing which never happens. Just to feed children lies, and set up expectations which can never be achieved.

*Evan’s PoV*

As we all gather around the campfire, I feel so out of place. Surrounding me are a bunch of the most hypocritical people on the face of the Earth. They’ll be the first there for you when you’re in a happy place, but when you fall they’ll be the first ones to laugh. They’re all just staring at him, goggle-eyed and all. He’s the reason why I am here. He wanted me to come to this stupid campout because it wouldn’t be the same without me. And I agreed. Not just because I like him, but because I like to see him happy.

We all look up at him, as he clears his throat. His Adam’s apple bobs up and down in a sexy way, as he begins to talk.

He starts to tell a scary story, the light of the fire catching his face at odd angles, making him look scarier than he really is. But I can’t focus on the story, as I zone out and day dream. This happens often now,  more frequent than ever before. Someone can be telling me the secret to world peace, and if it isn’t him, I’d totally be zoned out, living in my own little world where he declared his love to me every single moment I’m there.

The sound of a cracking stick snaps me out of my thoughts, as I realize that what he just said was meant to scare us.

He stares at me questioningly, noticing my lack of reaction. Then there’s this glint in his eye that I know all too well, and I know he has a plan. And I’d better be prepared for anything.

*3rd Person PoV*

As soon as Randy finished his scary story, everyone jumped. It wasn’t anything overly scary, but he was Randy, and everyone exaggerated around Randy. Everyone but his best friend Evan, which is why they were such close friends. The younger boy was himself near or far from Randy, and he was one of the few people who wouldn’t throw themselves at him.

Everyone but Evan seemed to have a reaction to Randy’s story, and for some reason, that seemed to bother him. Evan wasn’t being himself lately, he was barely paying attention to anyone, and he would zone out constantly. It bothered Randy to know that his best friend was obviously hiding something from him.

He looked over at his best friend, and the two instantly made eye contact, Randy’s eyebrow raised in a questioning look. Evan said nothing, but he smiled, and it made Randy smile as well.

It was something about Evan that made him happy. The boy could melt his heart with as little as a smile. It sounded so cliché, but he felt like all the good choices he made, he made because of Evan. Evan could keep him calm when no one could, and he knew he could always count on him for anything. Good or bad, Evan was always there for him.
