The day which we fear as our last is but the birthday of eternity."

-Lucius Annaeus Seneca

He lays there motionless as his three best friends Megan Rose, Madison, and Lance stand beside him sobbing hoping it's not the end. For he was so young and had so much to learn and do. It's Saturday morning in Stonebrook as time runs out and fear arises. They had been best friends for as long as they could remember. Everyone knew Steven, Maddie, Megan Rose, and Lance as the inseparable four. It was around 9 A.M. when everything happened so suddenly and changed four teenagers lives.

Four best friends, Steven, Megan Rose, Maddie, and Lance were walking down the street to their favorite place to go local cafe They did this every morning to start off their day. Maddie walked up to the counter and Hanna was working the counter.

"Sup Maddie," Hanna said "Want the usual?"

"Yes please." Maddie said stepping to the side as jessica got the drinks ready. When they were ready Maddie went up and got them from Hanna. "Thanks Hanna." she said as she walked out the door with her friends. They started walking down the streets of Stonebrook when the screech of tires was heard and the cries of people "WATCH OUT!" someone said. They ran out of the way as fast as they could. Once out of the way they looked around to see if everyone was there. Megan noticed that Steven wasn't there. They looked around frantically shouting out "STEVEN!" until Lance saw him laying there on the ground.

"SOMEONE CALL 911!" Megan yelled running to one of her best friend's side. "WE NEED AN AMBULANCE!" " QUICK!" she yelled panicking

"Stay Calm Meg, it's gonna be ok" Lance said comforting Megan. The sirens got louder as they got closer and closer. They pick him up and put him on the gurney and load him in the back where only one was allowed to ride with. They let Meg go with because she was the closest to him. Once at the hospital they rush him to the operating room as two nurses try to calm Megan, Lance, and Maddie down and wait in the waiting room. Soon Steven's parents arrive tears streaming down his mother's face as his father holds her in his arm.

A few hours later the doctor comes out to the waiting area "Steven Edwards?" he called out, Mr. and Mrs. Edwards stood and went over to him with the three friends trailing behind with tear stained cheeks and red puffy eyes.

"Is he ok!?" Mrs. Edwards asked.

"Yes, the operation went very well." the doctor said "He is sleeping at the moment but you may go in and see him if you would like. He's in room 113A." he flashed a smile to them and walked away to the next patient's family. They neared the room Steven was in and stood there in silence nobody moving, just standing and staring at the door wondering what's to come. Megan was the first to move she hesitated then slowly pushed open the door. When she looked at him a small gasp left her lips. He lays there, a cast on his right arm and a cast on his left leg. They were sitting around him waiting for him to wake up when the steady beeps became fast and uneven.

Lance ran out into the hall "NURSE! DOCTOR! SOMEBODY HELP" he called out. Doctors and nurses came rushing to the room and wheeled him away. They came back about an hour later to tell them what happened and if he was ok.

"I have good news and bad news," the doctor said. "The good news is that Steven is ok he went into shock causing his heat rate to speed up. The bad news is that he is in a coma. We are not for sure on how long this will be."

"Thank you doctor" Mr. Edwards said pulling his wife into him as loud sobs escaped her mouth and his eyes glistened over as tears threatened to fall. Maddie, Lance, and Megan got into a group hug crying hoping to see their friend soon awake and smiling again.

It's been about three months and still nothing. They've been with him everyday through it all.

"Mr. & Mrs. Edwards, we would like to take Steven off of the breather he has shown no progress." the doctor said. "Beeeeeep" . They heard coming from the monitor then it went back to normal. Confused they all gathered around Steven and watched Maddie and his mother grabbed his hand. Then Maddie smiled as she felt his fingers twitch and curl as if he were trying to hold her hand. His eyes slowly blinked open then closed. When his eyes adjusted to the lights he looked around with a horrified look on his face. Steven started to panic not knowing who these people are. The doctor pushed them out of the room and tried to calm Steven down. His family and friends sobbing in the hall outside the door.

"Steven has temporary memory loss" the doctor informed them as he came out in the hall. He gave a sympathetic smile and walked away leaving them alone to process things. They all look at each other and go back into the room. The next day Steven was discharged from the hospital and his parents took him home. He was welcomed home by the three strangers that were once his best friends. They all had brought something that was special to them that Steven took part of trying to jog his memory nothing worked.

Megan, Lance, and Maddie went into another room, when they got in there Maddie broke down into tears. Lance pulled Maddie into a hug comforting her.

"It's okay Maddie he'll remember us, we just have to wait," Lance said.

"I wouldn't ever say if you are having tough times then there must be something wrong with your attitude. Life's a fight. It's a good fight of faith. I encourage people to stay up, stay hopeful, stay faith-filled." -Joel Osteen

Steven was in his room looking around and saw a picture that caught his eye sitting on the side of his bed. He sat on his bed picture in hand and he looked at it for a while. Then it hit him like a ton of bricks. He knew four people in the photo his three friends and himself.
