Many people in Rome were farmers. A minuscular amount of them were slaves. Most of them were free. Like farmers today, they had to pay taxes which were paid in partly in money and food. They grew barley, wheat, olives, and more. The farmers got money from selling their crops. With the money they had they bought clothes, furniture, tools, flip flops, drinking glass drinking glasses, and animals to sacrifice to the gods.
